Far-right violence

I've just read about events in Bavaria this weekend, and I am shocked.
The article I'm referring to is here (http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,596441,00.html), there's more background information in the page, but most of it is in German.
OUTRAGE AT FAR-RIGHT ATTACK
Two Neonazis Detained after Stabbing of Police Chief
Police have detained two neo-Nazis following the near-fatal stabbing of a senior Bavarian police officer on Saturday. The attack on an offical marks an escalation of violence by Germany's far right and has led to calls for a crackdown on the far-right scene.
Prosecutors said the two men fitted the description given by Alois Mannichl, who survived the attack after undergoing emergency surgery. They are being interviewed and a decision will be taken later on Monday whether to remand them in custody.
Police said they were also investigating other people from the far-right scene.
Mannichl, 52, a hate figure for local right-wing extremists because he has taken a hard line in tackling them, was stabbed after opening his front door to a bald man who launched into a torrent of abuse, calling him a "left-wing police pig" and declaring "greetings from the national resistance movement" before ramming an 11-centimeter blade into his stomach.
Neo-Nazis commonly describe themselves as the "national resistance."
The knife missed Mannichl's heart by two centimeters and he was able to give a description of the assailant.
This happend just days after a survey was published in the same newspaper, showing that the far-right has overall lost influence in Germany over the past 6 years. It highlighted that extremism had declined considerably in the West, while somewhat increasing in the East.
Apparently, the decline in numbers has not reached into Bavaria... :(
Living abroad, I no longer have first-hand knowledge of what the right-wingers get up to these days, can anybody give some first-hand accounts? I haven't read much about it in the papers, and given Germany's sensitivity on this issue every small event tends to get comprehensive news coverage...

Good may come of this. Mannichl survived and this may be a wake-up call for others to pursue neo nazis more vigorously.

Big offense to both, apparently. ;)

Here's a fairly complete list of the fascist assaults in Italy in the last years. Ranging from beatings against black people, assaults against left-wing parties, assaults against students' marches (with police standing by and doing nothing to stop the fascists), breaking and entering the studios of the state TV.
