So, what are y'all secret (non-sexual) pleasures? Mine would have to be railroading. I used to actually have a model train set when I was growing up, and every fall I would go on a Norfolk Southern steam excursion run. Hell I was a big fan of Thomas the tank engine when I was little. I still like trains, and may start building another layout when I get my own house. I still remember when I rode the last Steam Excursion run Norfolk Southern would ever hold with the Class J #611 pulling the train. It was an exciting run but also a sobering one.

I basically work on the beach in southern Florida.

Almost everyday I am there, I spend about five minutes and go out on the beach access ramp by myself and watch the waves come in, the birds run/fly around, and observe how the light and clouds paint the sky and the Atlantic Ocean. I worked tonight and it was really incredible how the close perigee of the full moon's light bounced off of the gentle waves rolling in.

Anyways, that's my simple/secret pleasure. Natural beauty just has a way of putting things into better perspective for me.

I was just wondering.

the sense of freedom that only comes from being absolutely and completely alone. it's not that i have any wish to keep it a secret from anyone, but rather, however much i might wish to see everyone understanding and having themselves this happiness, it just isn't in any way that i've found possible to impart this to anyone without their arriving at it on their own.

(btw fwiw (for what its worth) trains (of all sizes) ARE my "first love" too! i DON'T make any kind of secret about it though. my favrorite though are just big enough to ride on or in. also, anything that runs on any sort of guideway, carries passingers, and opperates in multiple unit, and of course two out of three ain't bad! my least favorite are standard gauge north american freight opperations, nor broad gauge, other then metro, like bart. i just find diseconomies of excessive scale unaesthetic, but even broadgauge beats highways and automobiles for 'environmental friendliness' at least in my eyes, not to mention aestheticly)

My secret pleasure is singing, particularly classical and coral music. I used to sing in various choirs before I went to uni, but I've stopped doing that in the past few years and I keep meaning to pick it back up.

Of late...minesweeper. My brain doesn't really work well at that sort of thing, so its a bit of a challenge. I only manage to win on intermediate about 10% of the time, and the clock's always on 999 even when I do :p

Doing math here and there. Counting the till each night at my old job was pretty much the best part of any job, ever. Adding up player points and being a stats geek for my Blood Bowl league is about as close as I get to that these days.

It's not something that I'd like my housemates to know, 'cos I know they'd laugh at it.

I love steam locomotives! They are always beautiful when they're in action aren't they? Sadly the only steam locomotive action you can see in my neck of the woods are the one that goes around in a quarter mile loop. Railroads like Norfolk Southern, and CSX doesn't want steam excursion to get in the way of the freight traffic. :(

I will take the powder and use it as the filling of a sandwich. Something to eat when you have nothing else to eat. Very satisfying.

Of course drinking it properly tastes good too, either hot or cold.
