Are You A Lefty?

Curious Inquiry

Just a quick poll, inspired by an ill-conceived political convention and my own militancy (and curiosity).

Are you left-handed?

If "yes," what stories of tribulation at the hands of the majority would you care to relate?

Scissors! They're bloody bane of my life! I hate them...

Actually, almost 90% of people are left-handed, but they struggle by with their right hands. Those using their left hands are just rebels (and should probably be incarcerated).

I had to learn to use scissors in my right hand, but I foiled the evil device! I keep my right hand stationary, and move what I am cutting with my left hand ;)

Pish and tush! The only way to explain the current state of the world is by realizing that only 10% of the population is in their right mind ;)

In my school days, the teacher who taught penmanship would physically remove the pencil from my left hand and place it in my right. I'd just shrug and take it up in my left, and she'd calmly place it in my right again.
This was fairly commonplace back then, but was in it's way out. I certainly haven't heard of it since...

I'm right handed but for some reason when people actually see me write they think I'm left handed. Even though I'm clearly writing with my right hand. Something about how I hold the pencil, and the fact that my handwriting is atrocious, I guess.

I work at a shared computer, and the morning guy is a right-hander. For a while I tried switching the mouse over at the beginning of my day, but the cord doesn't reach well on that side and...well....

No offense, but there are already 3 threads on this topic.

Being treated like a second class student and given a pair of scissors that couldn't cut a tissue, let alone a decently straight line through a piece of construction paper.

And then getting made fun of because I always get marker all over my hand when I color, and graphite on my hand when I write.

Or the fact that when I use certain power tools, I have no protection against the blade.

I can use both hands :D

Do I win pie, as promised?

Hmm, i guess ambisinistrous refers to people with two left hands...which in Dutch means they're utterly clumsy. :D

Nope, although I have two brothers and a sister who are.

Nope, although I have two brothers and a sister who are.

But as we know from the other thread, that is only about 2% of your family.

Really, suddenly 3 topics on the same theme in two days. Is there an agenda I'm not aware of?

I'm a friggin' lefty, and proud of it, catch me if you can, bigots.

Left-handed, and lucky enough not to have been hassled in school about it.
Although it took years to convince my mother that those pens for left-handed were absolutely exactly the same and just cost more...

My aunt once told me that when she went to school, it was still custom to force left-handed children to write with their right. But since her father had been left-handed, he insisted with the school direction that she be allowed to just use her left hand as well.
So, later on, when she was at Realschule and had to learn shorthand, she convinced the teacher that she can't do it due to being left-handed and got excused from the course... :D

I am right hand dominate but after breaking my right wrist in the 8th grade i taught myself to write left handed. I still write with my right hand but i write with my left hand all the time.

I had the advantage that my parents were different to the rest of the people around. They were actually proud that I was a lefty, and never tried to push me to the other side of the hand spectrum.

I was responding to a @#$% theard about policital "lefties," which I believe is an abomination of the word. "Leftist" should be reserved for advocates for the left-handed. Lazy (mostly right-handed) people need to learn to call a socialist a socialist (and learn the difference between a socialist and a communist, while they're at it!).

So it isn't really the same thread, now, is it?

Hmm?

ditto that. My parents actually had my sister and me take part in research because both of my parents are right handed, and my sister and I are both left.

The research group still has the right to clone my hand. *nod*

What you don't realise is that was a prank gun: There were ejection ports on both sides! :p
