I wear Mens American Size 14 (European 48 1/2). WHat size are your's?

Also, does anyone know why they split mens and womens shoe sizes into different categories, or why the hell the sizes are different all over the place?

I wear a pair of size 14 boots. They're uncomfortably small though, I prefer at least 15s.

I wear a women's size 8.5-9 in the U.S.

In my experience, men will often grossly overstate their shoe size in the bizarre belief that it somehow correlates with their penis.

If only that were the truth *sighs*.

Seriously, I don't overstate my shoe size... 14 is my usual, I can go down to 13 1/2 with some brands.

I wear American Mens' size 12 or 11.5. Oddly, my boots, which are made in the UK, claim to be size 10, despite fitting quite well. Strange.

None of the shoe shops in my vicinity have women's shoes going up to UK size 9, so I have to wear icky guy shoes. I'd buy shoes on the internet, but I read in the newspaper that if you buy anything on the internet your credit card details get stolen, they find out your address and poop on you while you sleep.

UK 9s.

I'd wear 8.5s, but I can never find them in H width.

No, I don't, but my guess would be that shoemaking is quite a specialised trade, meaning that endogenous customs and practices are particularly solid.

If by specialized you mean made on an assembly line in Thailand by 13 year olds.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Shoemaking used to be a specialised trade: a craft, rather than a piece of unskilled work. Shoes moved to mass production much later than most other common goods (and traditional shoemakers, at least in the UK, are still quite common - 'cobblers') because of their intricate composition. But, I assume shoe sizes date from the preindustrial era.

Also - and still, only speculating - precisely because there are so many different measurements, it's difficult to converge on one as a standard choice: it would mean confusing almost everyone.

Even amongst American brands there's a variance. My old work boots are size 16 and fit me fine. Yet I currently wear 14s.

Thats better, thanks for clarifying.

Shoe size chart (http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html#adult)

I have 44 or 45 European/11 American. It varies a little.

The American shoe size makes most sense, IIRC it's the size of your feet in inches. Or maybe size of your shoes. I'm not sure why it differs for men and women... The good thing about European sizes is that they are the same for men and women, but I have no idea what the numbers mean.

Also 48 is actually quite large, if you ask me...

Well, I am anything but a small person... 48 seems large to me too but according to the chart I posted in the OP, its what my size is in europe

Roughly 11 in UK sizes, but can usually get by with a 10 or even a 9.

I am a UK 11. 12 for thongs however.

(made the mistake of getting size 11 pluggers last week... my heel basically hangs off the back!)

It's worrying! some of the stuff I learnt in uni this semester is coming back! ack!
for every size increase, the width of the shoe increases by 8.4mm?

Yeah, what's up with that? Why do you need a larger thong size then on the shoe?

US women's size 7 or 7 narrow, usually.

US men's 10 wide, though I usually have to go to 10 1/2 because the wide are always picked over

Length 42, width 43. Kinda hard to find wide enough shoes that ain't too long. I usually end up wearing 43s.

I wear a women's 8.5 AA American (39 European). Hard to find, to say the least ... and I have never owned a pair of tennis shoes that wasn't white, or a pair of everyday shoes that cost less than $50. The curse of narrow feet.

It so depends on the cut of the shoe that I try anything from a woman's 8-9.

Regular foot measurement for the win.

I think I'm in the average range, which means I can get footwear anywhere-except that I have really wide feet. (American 10 1/2-11, wide)

I finally found a pair of boots that are comfortable out of the box, Caterpillars, which has the added effect of making me feel like a Tonka truck so every time I put them on I'm 12 for a few seconds.

UK 10 or 11
USA 10.5 or 11.5
Euro 44 or 45
very wide feet, like Mr. CtoaN there. i mostly wear skaters' shoes cos they're wide and soft, though i've recently been wearing Ecco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECCO) shoes (which are truly excellent)

i didn't know we had different sizes for men and women here in the uk.... when did that happen?!

US 13. Does this mean I have among the largest feet of NSG?

I saw SaintB's 14, and a 15 in here somewhere...
I know I have some of the largest feet I know among people my size; I'm 5'11", so a 13 is rather large.

i recommend the brand Osiris, if you can get them :)
the last pair i had only lasted about a year, and they were a bit expensive (about £45), but they were very comfortable and black, meaning i could wear them at work and smart places as well

i wear a size 10 shoe but a 9.5 boot, its really annoying when looking for shoes that will fit snug when playing basketball and i grab a ten and its so small i can barely get my feet into it but when i grab the same shoe a half size bigger its huge, its so screwed up

As another wide-footed chap, I'd second the recommendation for skate shoes.

Though not just Osiris.

If they made a 13.5 I would wear those.. 13 is just a bit too tight, and 14 is too big.
