Universe(s)

So I was thinking, if the Big Bang theory is correct is it possible that it wasn't an isolated event? Could there be more universes outside the end of our own?

Also, if the theory that all of the gravity combined would pull the universe back together could the 'Bang' have happened before and this is like the IDK 13th time the universe has existed?

Yes to all.

The Cyclic Model springs to mind.

And the idea of other universes and parallel universes has been thrown around for a while.

The major problem in the cyclic theory is that based on our current scientific knowledge, our universe has an infinite lifespan: instead of all this ending in some kind of "Big Crush" (which could also be the Big Bang of the next universe) it looks like our fate is so-called "heat death": the Universe will continue to expand at ever-accelerating rate, with all stars and matter being slowly burned up, until finally, in very, very distant future, nothing but free photons remain in an incredibly cold, empty and dead Universe.

And this will be the final state of the Universe.

I'm waiting for the Big Crunch to verify the theory.

Might be the case, might not. I think even top science bods debate this sorta thing, so us here on NSG can probably only provide an ad hoc, uninformed 'reckon' rather than a useful opinion :p

I seem to recall Steven Hawking talking about the possiblity of multible unverses existing at the same time in various states. Then again he also talked about how the universe could fit inside of an nut shell and the nature of space and time. He had an book on it, I think it was called aproporately enough "The Unverse in an Nut Shell". As for me, I think it is possible that there are multible universeing existing past president and future some with life some with none and some with nothing but pure energy in them.

maybe one day we will become advanced enough to determine the future of the universe and ensure it exists in a state our preference for infinity. We would probably be post physical at that stage.

though at the quantum level things may line up after enough time to create a new big bang(longer then the universe from big bang to heat death)

There are exactly two Universes. This one, and another one immediately adjacent in which everyone wears cowboy hats.

Thats just quantum effects coming into play. The type of hat changes depending on where and how you observe the other universe.

For instance view it from Scientology headquarters and everyone appears to be wearing lollipop wrappers.

You lie! That box contains our Universe and nothing else.

Well that's right he shouldn't, cause if he does then he will die and won't be able to see the Big Crunch.

I subscribe to the big rip theory. Comforting to know that our final fate consists of having our guts ripped out by external forces.

Impossible to know if its happened more than once(as far as we are concerned) we can't even prove it happenbed once. Once we got that down religion will be Fed

If the spacial dimensions of... well space, truly are infinite. Then yes, there are likely more than just this one universe. Infinitely more. Unless....
