What they're doing is hazardous to those around them with the high possibility of long term injury, I could argue it's self defense.
What they're doing is hazardous to those around them with the high possibility of long term injury, I could argue it's self defense.
No, it's just being an asshole. We have a thing called politeness where you ask people not to smoke and don't show up at places where people are smoking expecting them all to put out their cigarettes just because a nonsmoker is in the area. We respect your rights and reasonable requests and in turn expect you to do the same. If you ask a person not to smoke and your request is reasonable and they don't listen, then let us take matters in to our own hands because there's nothing that pisses any of us off more than assholes making us look bad.
I'm perfectly fine with banning smoking in public establishments, but that doesn't give nonsmokers the right to be assholes. There are plenty of things that are as dangerous and as hazardous to others as smoking, and in the case of a few of them they're far more dangerous...I always laugh at people who binge drink till they're throwing up or staggering around, maybe fucking someone without protection but are appalled at the thought of someone lighting up next to them.

Your opinion is duly noted. But in the real world, smokers are by far the bigger assholes. You can speak of your experiences, I'll speak of mine. One time I asked some idiot to stop and he just smiled, said he was going to leave soon and smoked harder for 30 minutes. And this isn't uncommon either. The hard fact is people aren't that stupid, even though they're cancering themselves up, they know smoke is a gas that inside a room people cannot avoid inhaling it. The rest of us are supposed to go around asking them to cut it out all the time, whenever they feel like doing it? They should fucking know better, and stop pretending like they're that ignorant. This shit bothers people and we shouldn't have to outright be asking perfect strangers to stop. If they're looking for attention, or human interaction, perhaps a fist is more fitting. It's like needing to ask someone to stop blasting noise from vehicles, music or exhaust. They're not freakin stupid, they know what they're doing, with a shit eating grin on their face. In a perfect world, they'd literally be open season. Also, I don't drink so that last point is moot.

This claim is absurd to the point of hypochondria. I can only hope you're not a gambler if you think that's a "high possibility."
Also the lung cancer or other 'smoking related' disease I assume you're referring to as "injury" here would not be an "injury."
I could argue it's self defense.
You could, and you'd lose, and go to prison for assault. I guess that's a happy ending if you really think "he was smoking a cigarette" is an actual justification for violent crime.
Your opinion is duly noted. But in the real world, smokers are by far the bigger assholes.
The same real world where you think punching people because you're afraid they'll increase your risk of cancerous "injury" is a good thing?
You can speak of your experiences, I'll speak of mine. One time I asked some idiot to stop and he just smiled, said he was going to leave soon and smoked harder for 30 minutes.
Holy anecdotal evidence, batman!
And so very persuasive! A guy didn't do as you demanded! That should be a crime!
And this isn't uncommon either. The hard fact is people aren't that stupid, even though they're cancering themselves up, they know smoke is a gas that inside a room people cannot avoid inhaling it. Oh, so the problem isn't that you're being "cancered up" - apparently that doesn't bother you! - no, the real bugger for you is that you are forced to communicate with other people instead of your stated preferred alternative, namely assault and battery.
Poor, poor you.
This shit bothers people and we shouldn't have to outright be asking perfect strangers to stop.
Yeah, perfect strangers should just have telepathic abilities and instantly know (and submit to) your every whim.
O cruel world, why doest thou fiendishly deprive me so?
If they're looking for attention, or human interaction, perhaps a fist is more fitting. It's like needing to ask someone to stop blasting noise from vehicles, music or exhaust.
Last I checked, people driving cars or playing music don't telepathically acquiesce to the every demand of random strangers either!
They're not freakin stupid, they know what they're doing, with a shit eating grin on their face. In a perfect world, they'd literally be open season.

I agree, but only where there's no smoking signs. I don't mind asking them if there is no no-smoking sign around, but I shouldn't have to ask with one around. Anyone stupid enough to stand next to a no-smoking by law sign and smoke deserves a punch in the face. There's no excuse for that. And that's besides the fact that most smokers here seem to be total assholes when you do ask them, no matter how polite. Especially those idiots who stand on something like Hospital property (Smoke-free by provincial law) and smoke, and then dare freak out when you tell them to leave (I work at a hospital).
Someone here said many of you smokers will crack down on those assholes, well, why arn't you here? Honestly, I'd have more respect if I saw that happening rather then the complete lack of it around here or anywhere I've ever been.

If you're not a smoker, smoking a cigarette will probably make you physically ill...
That being said, the stimulative effects of nicotine are something else. The first cigarette of the day is an experience in and of itself.

I don't know. I've only really smoked Camel Lights and Turkish Golds. An old ex smoked Turkish Golds. When I smoke, which I normally don't, it reminds me of her--she was kind of like one big (smoking hot, crazy) bad habit.

I find them rather calming. I'm not a "smoker"*, but I've smoked for periods of time before, and I like that rush you get for like five minutes being cigarette-drunk. Soothing.
*I know lots of people say this, but I don't know how else to put it except that at times I have smoked, for various reasons, yet somehow (despite having numerous genetic odds stacked against me) I have never developed an addiction to nicotine.

B&H Silver mostly because of the slidey packs
Richmonds if I'm poor.
so I'm not the only one rummaging around the sofa in the morning :)
edit:
*I know lots of people say this, but I don't know how else to put it except that at times I have smoked, for various reasons, yet somehow (despite having numerous genetic odds stacked against me) I have never developed an addiction to nicotine.
I have the same affliction and smoke when I can afford to (because saving money is for losers)

I too enjoy a good clove every once in a while.
Oh no no, I am not a smoker obviously. But the act of smoking, the smell of the smoke.. all of it, I don't like it. If I am dating a smoker I don't really like kissing them after they smoke until they pop a breath mint or havn't lit up for about 15 minutes. It makes me gag....
Same here. I always make sure I don't smell like smoke, because to be honest stale smoke smells as bad to me as any nonsmoker.
I find them rather calming. I'm not a "smoker"*, but I've smoked for periods of time before, and I like that rush you get for like five minutes being cigarette-drunk. Soothing.

I have a friend who's the same way; now, in my case my mom did in fact smoke while I was growing up, so my sensitivity to nicotine may be a good deal higher than other people. Add in genetic factors, and I imagine like any addiction there's a lot more than just the nicotine itself that produces such a difficult habit and addiction to break.
Recall that physical addiction to nicotine is broken in roughly 72 hours after last exposure, which shows it isn't the compound itself acting alone that produces such high relapse rates among smokers who try to quit. There's a lot more there that also affects your susceptibility to nicotine, and it would be interesting to find out just what's going on.
I'm too sick to smoke. I smoked a halfie this morning and coughed til my eyes watered.
Cloves are good and I smoke them whenever I can. Oddly I don't go out of my way to buy them at all, though. This is partly because I'm cheap, and also because I don't want to cheapen the experience through a glut of supply.

Djarum Blacks.
They're so tasty.

I'm the same.
I only smoke occasionally.
I too enjoy a good clove every once in a while.
I used to smoke them more regularly, but I got sick of them. I think they're nicer as an indulgence rather than an everyday smoke.

Yeah... sadly 90% of my family smokes so its hard to avoid smelling like ash.

Old smoke is a pretty nasty smell, It's so musty and seems to cling to everything.
I stopped smoking cigarettes a while ago and don't really like them now, although I'll still have a cigar every now and then.
Shotties, bucket bongs, bongs and vaporisers are my preferred way of smoking.

exaust from steam locomotives.
They are cooler than electric and all the others. Steam engines seem to just have more raw power than any other sort.
