The Great NS Alcohol Thread

Grab a beer, a glass of wine, or whatever is nearby and lets talk.
That's right folks is time to talk about all things alcohol...
What do you drink? Beer? Wine? Liquor? Absinthe? Moonshine? or do you just hate the plain sight of alcohol altogether. Do you prefer to drink amongst friends at home? outdoors? or in your local pub/bar? Do you drink too much, or just a beer or two a day? Share drinkin stories, strange people you have woken up next to after a long night of drinking....whatever. As long as it is alcohol related, it is totally relavent here.
My favorite cheap beer is Yuengling, My favorite liquor is vodka (anykind will really do) and jager. I like wine as well, but I don't drink enough of it to know what is good and what isn't (it honestly all tastes the same to me).

I love me my beer, but I also enjoy gin quite a bit. And tequilla, but that is a very special drunk that I become, and so I'm careful with it.
Favorite setting is with a dozen friends around, playing some beer pong, relaxing after a day of skiing.
Or, with those dozen friends, grilling, blasting music out on the porch.
Or with my 500 closest friends, standing on the sides of the marathon path, cheering on the runners.
I do drink entirely too much.
Drinking stories...hmm...I'll try to think of my top ones as this thread develops.
Oh, and currently drinking a gin and blue gatorade, after killing off a blue moon mix pack.

My scars are more shadows than massive scars. I do have a nice one near my ear that I claim is from a skydiving accident in which my earring got stuck on a tree branch. Sad thing is, some people believe me.
Most recent drunken scar: I challenged my friend to a fight. We agreed that one punishment could be performed by the winner. We fought. I lost. He then told me he has a black belt in karate. He then put a cigarette out on my arm and told me to quit or he'd do it again.
I still don't know if he meant the ass kicking or the cigarette.

Sadly, I have drunk less as a student than as a schoolboy.
I used to mainly drink Guinness because I didn't like John Smith's or Tetley's, but I've forced myself to like them now. Greene King is ok. But I much prefer tastynice Hobgoblin, Nun's Delight, or other real ales.
I have no pallette for wine at all and tend to just chug whatever's cheapest, but only if it's red (white doesn't taste good, champagne is a crime against humanity, and rose looks and tastes like the urine of a patient with a kidney disease).
I used to drink cheap vodka but since I went to Poland have gone off it, unless heavily mixed. Big fan of G&Ts. Haven't tried many whiskys/whiskeys, but thus far my favourite is Wild Turkey.
I don't tend to drink a lot: if I'm at home, one or two beers or glasses of wine with dinner, and perhaps a spirit later in the evening. If I go out, depends on the prices.
Currently working my way through all of London's Sam Smith's pubs. Our union is a bit crap.
Funny drinking stories...not really, off hand. My two best friends met for the first time in a dingy rock bar in London last year, having got oiled with me at a Sam Smith's beforehand, and chugging Red Stripe evidently brought out their competitive side, leading to the infamous comment, "Eating three Jacob's crackers in a minute is easy." Cue trip to Sainsbury's and eating contestn in front of increasingly horrified metalheads.
There is only one way to really drink alcohol:
http://www.tinyvices.com/goonbag2.jpg
(not me... just google image search)
(I challenge any non-Australian to identify the name of that game ;))
However, when I am being weak, and can't handle the sack, I will take gin or beer.
Gin I usually drink is either Jinn or Tanqueray
As far as beer goes I like to mix it around. If I am out though, I'll take Tooheys New

Heineken, Absolut Vodka, J. K. Scrumpy's Apple Cider, Bailey's Irish Creme, Malibu Flavored Rum, Brugal Anejo Rum, red wine (you can't go wrong with red), Jack Daniel's Whiskey, port (various varieties). Also, anything that is free and alcoholic is alright with me.
There are probably others, but I can't remember. Tonight, I've been drinking Heineken and Svedka (I'm not proud of drinking Svedka, but it is cheap, and you can't taste it when mixed in with enough OJ or Diet Coke). I'll be moving on soon enough.

We should have been able to actually make multiple choices. I like wine, Blue Moon, Bailey's, some mixed drinks like mojitos and juleps. I don't much like Scotch (good scotch is kind of smokey and doesn't appeal, bad Scotch is just bad), or any sort of whiskey unless it's mixed with something.
One thing no one should drink - a Trailertini (Red Bull and vodka) - it's pretty nasty.

When I go out I usually drink Skyy Vodka Lime & Soda mixers. They're not as sugary as the other brands. Spririt-wise, I prefer vodka. I also don't mind Tia-Maria, Baileys, Malibu etc.
Totally irrelevant maybe but I make an awesome mudslide.

There's another version which is kaluha, bailey's, vodka served on the rocks in a glass drizzled with chocolate syrup. It's a bit stronger, more cocktaily and less after dinnery version.
They're both excellent.

Luckily I live in Germany so there is fine selection of things to drink. For the most part I drink Beer, but I some times like to drink something harder. Russian Vodka, Krauterglut - (which is exactly the same thing as Jagermeister but half the price), "Diplomat" Winbrand which is the cheapest non-vile tasting thing you can buy at Aldi. I sometimes buy Scotch but a good scotch is expensive so not so often. I'm actually not a big fan of absinthe because it tastes kind of like ouzo and I don't like that either. I usually drink the hard-stuff straight as shots but I sometimes mix cocktails - like a master blaster: 40% Vodka, ~45% RedBull, and ~15% Champagne -- this is the most horrible thing though because it tastes good, it gets you really drunk and you want to die in the morning. I also like a good Gin and Tonic. The other thing I should mention is that I don't abuse Alcohol, I drink a little every day in typical European fashion rather than get totally wasted at parties. I don't use being drunk as an excuse to act like an asshole either. ...so anyway -- Cheers!

i prefer to remain clear headed because what i enjoy depends on it, and making myself otherwise, reguardless of the method of doing so, simply isn't gratifying enough to compensate the loss.
i've always found this difficult to explain to the simple minded. that its not a judgement of them, but entirely a matter of my own personal taste. one far too many of seem inclined to deny me of.
to such an extent that at times i felt compelled to, and honored that compulsion, to join religeous organizations which forbade mind altering substances, because tellling them i was a member of one seemed to be the only way i could convince them that no, i honestly did NOT want a friggin drink, toke, hit, et c., that i realize, for the most part they were just trying to be social and generous.
one more reason i'm not all that social either. things i enjoy, the way i most enjoy them, really don't involve, let alone depend upon, having to be around other people, and quite frequently are enjoyed best, at least by me, when completely alone.
so each to their hearts content, as long as the're not tearing everything up in the proccess, and i, hopefully, to mine.

Depends whether it is Bohemian or French style. French dissolve a cube of sugar in a measure of absinthe then top up with water to taste. Bohemian you melt the sugar in a spoon and stir it into the absinthe and then add the water.

Not if you want anything that's actually good.
Absinthe was only very recently legalized, and so there are very few US makers of it. There's one highly reputable distillery in the bay area I know of that makes it, along with vodka and whiskey. But in quite small quantities, and for high prices. Though not particularly high for absinthe. It's a luxury drink.

Depends whether it is Bohemian or French style. French dissolve a cube of sugar in a measure of absinthe then top up with water to taste. Bohemian you melt the sugar in a spoon and stir it into the absinthe and then add the water.

I like the Zen Buddhist Drinking Game (http://everything2.com/index.pl?node=zen+buddhist+drinking+game) myself.
That sounds like an awesome game, need to get some people together and try it sometime.

Holy shit, the post you quoted... I thought that was my name. I looked at the post, and I thought "my god, I don't remember ever spelling it 'Czeck' when it's clearly Czech", but then I did more than glance at the name, and I realised it wasn't me who posted it.
It was quite a scare.

One of these days I really need to try absinthe. I'm not much of a drinker, but what I have tended to like is normally the more unusual stuff anyway, so it has a lot of promise.
Do try it when you can. I like it a lot, but I also recognize absinthe isn't something you drink often. For once in a while it's cool.

I personally think it's worth the price. But that depends on taste and on budget, and, of course, on your willingness to spend money on absinthe.

It really depends on how the change is on the day you're to purchase a bottle of absinthe. But I saw posted in the thread that there's absinthe been made in the US. Why spend money buying it from Europe if you have it on your own country?

I didn't know it was legal to sell here. I did see what looked like absinthe at my local ABC store, but I didnt think they could sell the real deal here.
I will definitely look for some stateside then.

In the US it was believed that the wormwood was harmful to the brain. That's not a proven thing, but that was mainly the reason why absinthe was banned in the US for such a long time.

It seems to be about as dangerous as any other form of alcohol.

Because it's only been legal very recently, there isn't very much yet. My friend bought some from St. George's Spirits, and he said it was quite good, and so when I have the money, I'll be buying some (this comes after gift shopping, and fanime tickets). Of course, St. George's, I was pleased to learn, is based in my hometown, so that's cool too. They make really good whiskey as well.

I might try buying the brand that was at my local liquor store then.
