I like Christmas, i dont consider myself a Christian anymore, but, without all the politics and stupidity getting caught in it, theres still a good message in there...

but, My favorite is Halloween, great tv, candy, and Pagan Daemon spirits, what more do you want? lol

I absolutely hate Thanksgiving, food i dont particularly like, people I cant stand....and lots of bullshit tv programs...for once Id like to see a show where an Indian tribe takes some Pilgrim girl, and the Pilgrims slaughter them all in retaliation, lol...Itd make the holiday a little more bearable...

Hmm. My concussed self really likes Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving, my birthday, and Halloween. Strangely, all of them involve junk food.

Everything except Valentines. Smug loved-up people talking about how in love they are and how romantic their partner is. There is no more depressing time to be single and reminded of the fact that this is likely to remain the state of affairs (aha, I mildly pun) for many years to come. Its like when people fail at quiz shows and the host goes 'look what you could have won'.

I should really hate holidays by now...I don't have very good luck on them.

But I can't help but love Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween, Memorial Day, Patriot's Day, all good times.

Hanukkah
St. Patrick's Day

I'm not Irish, nor Jewish. It'd be neat to be both, I imagine.

Thanksgiving

Don't much care for the traditional Thanksgiving meal. I'd probably like it more if seeing family involved less travel.

Valentines

I'm with Dumb Ideologies on this one.

April Fools

Meh...I just keep waiting for a young relative to be born on April 1st. It keeps almost happening.

Your Birthday

Usually too drunk to remember how much fun I had.

Christmas

Used to like it a lot...but lately I think that it should change from giving people crap to donating time/money to charitable causes.

New Year's Day

I'm usually working...dealing with drunks all night. Being "the man"...not much fun. :(

Independence Day

Fireworks!!!!

Yes, please.

Halloween

Absolutely love it! Costumes, candy, and an excuse to party all night. What's not to like? :)

I enjoy a lot of them.

New Year's Day mainly consists of watching football and polishing shoes. It's actually quite relaxing. The best New Year's Day though, would be if the Cal Bears went to the Rose Bowl. Then I'd be in Pasadena for New Year's Day.

I used to hate Valentine's Day. But the last three have been good, because I actually had someone to celebrate the day with. Fun.

St. Patrick's day is fun. Usually involves a lot of drinking of good stout, for me. Great holiday.

Beltane/May Day is usually fun.

4th of July (Independence Day) is pretty fun, too. There's a parade in my hometown, and then there's fireworks that night. It's pretty cool.

Halloween can be epically fun. Last year it was fun until I blacked out. Then after that I remember puking at a bus stop. That kinda sucked. This year I played a show, but was really sick during it and so couldn't really drink or anything. Hmmm. I hope next year's is better.

Thanksgiving is usually pretty nice. A relatively quiet holiday, because we go down to celebrate it with my mom's (much smaller) side of the family in So-Cal. It's a nice few days when I don't have to do anything. And my grandmother's pies are amazing.

Christmas is my favorite holiday. My family does Christmas pretty big. We like a good party. So Christmas is kinda the climax of the year. On Christmas Eve we have a party at my mom's house, and then on Christmas Day we have another party at my grandparents' house and then we all go over to my Aunt's house for Christmas Dinner. No, we're not a religious family (well, except for my mother and sister who are Catholic and of course me, I'm pagan), but Christmas is just fun.

Oh, and I don't count my birthday as a holiday.

Everything but Hanukkah for me (Unabused Catholic Alter Server).

St. Patrick's for the excuse to excessively drink whiskey.
Christmas for the presents (and the celebration of the birth of Christ)
Valentine's for the 'romance.'
Independence Day for the release of pyrotechnical devices.
My Birthday for more presents.
Halloween for costumes, candy, and the ladies.
Thanksgiving for the turkey, cranberry sauce, and numerous types of pie.
April Fool's since it lets me mercilessly prank others
And of course, New Year's, for more booze and a New Year's date.

Seeing how out of your list, there are only three holidays that are actually celebrated here... and all of those three I do celebrate are in December, the year's celebrations get kinda lopsided.

- Christmas Eve (24th)
- My Birthday (7th - So very soon!!! What y'all gonna get me, huh? Huh?)
- Thanksgiving (Not a holiday here)
- Independence day (Don't have it. Day of German Reunification is October 3rd - but that's not a big celebration here)
- Valentines (Hell no!)
- April Fools (That's no holiday. May 1st is!)
- St. Patrick's Day (Good excuse to get drunk - but not a holiday)
- New Year's Eve (31st - I'm so looking forward to this year's fireworks. Fire! FIRE!)
- Halloween (Not a holiday here)
- Hanukkah (Lutheran here)

Christmas, my Birthday, Valentine's is usually alright (lots of singles nights on, hurrah), New Year's always ends with pissed-up group sex and there's nothing wrong with Hanukkah either.

I'm surprised that St. Patty's day is so unpopular. I guess all the binge drinkers are out already tonight, or mabye they, like me, accidentally clicked on New Year's Day, like I did. Not that I didn't also vote for New Year's, I clicked on New Year's Day because I meant to click on Halloween, and I clicked on Halloween because I didn't notice that Hannukah was at the bottom.
I probably shouldn't be doing things right now, but I am.

Most of the ones in the poll, esp. Thanksgiving and Christimas - good food. The 4th is great of course - BBQ and explosions are the perfect combination if you ask me. :p My birthday, not so much.
Anti-Social Darwinism
06-12-2008, 07:58
Favorite - Thanksgiving - food, family, TV, no expectations
2nd - Independence Day - Usually involves a Rockies home game, fireworks, family, and food.
3d - Hallowe'en (Samhain for those who really understand it). Kids in costume, candy, and a Dumb Supper Altar.
4th - St. Parick's Day - I like corned beef and cabbage and Irish Soda Bread. Green is my favorite color.
5th - Christmas (Winter Solstice) - because at the darkest time of year light and celebration helps.

I enjoy Christmas, my birthday and New Year's Day. I don't mind Valentine Day.

We don't have Thanksgiving here, or independence day - but bonfire night is good fun. I'm not sure why anyone would celebrate April Fools, don't care about St Patrick's Day and think Halloween is a nasty idea.

I checked Christmas, New Years, St. Patrick's Day, and Thanksgiving. Interestingly, these usually have a food and/or family component.

I also hate Valentine's day - probably enough to ban it if it were made into a Nationstates issue. But not enough to campaign against it in real life.

P.S. How can you hate Mother's Day?

Christmas
Not a bad holiday. As a college student I give crappy 5-20 dollar gifts to various family members then get between 50-250 dollars from them all.

Your Birthday
I am the center of attention, and everyone wants to bring me boos. Also make it a point to swing by family during the week of and get money from family. Really win win.

Thanksgiving

Drive the grandma's house.
Eat turkey. be stared at like a heathen for drinking. (family is full of recovering alcoholics)
Not a fun holiday at all. And none of the relatives give much money seeing as Xmas is coming up.

Independence day (only in some countries)

Get drunk blow stuff up.
This holiday rules.

Valentines
Depends.

Have a GF this holiday is nice. Go out eat a little, dance a little, drink a little and then have a really passionate night. (have a towel to prevent time of month issues from causing backfire lads)

don't have a GF I end up waiting tables that night hating all the couples coming in.

April Fools

the one time of the year I am not an asshole to everyone it is great throws everyone off. apply April fools rules to next holiday

St. Patrick's Day

Go to mass. Prey for Ireland. Curse other barbarians in my country for wearing green and getting drunk.

New Year's Day

Get drunk. tends to end early however. everyone seems to go nuts with the champagne after midnight and i tend to be the only one not passed out by 6 am.
Halloween

Wear a costume get drunk, drive around the neighborhood throwing water balloons at trick or treaters.

Hanukkah

No Jewish family members so limited experience via Jewish girl friend's family.
More modest gift exchange. However much more interesting conversations then my family and more tolerant of drinking.

Beyond:
Christmas (mmm... 1-2 months of celebrating)
My birthday
New Years
Thanksgiving (odd that I should celebrate it, but it just so happens that I do)

I also rather enjoy:
Easter
Midsummers day
Carnival (I can never remember when this one is)
Other people's birthdays (cause they're awesome and all that)

Ones I particularly dislike:
Valentine's Day, cause I still haven't gotten over getting dumped on that day more than five years ago.

Waste of an option, I think. Posting your favorite is simple enough in cases where it isn't possible to list every possibility.

But I agree about the inclusiveness - foreign holidays are fascinating. I like Greek Easter, Passover, el 5 de Mayo and the Hindu holiday Holi, though I haven't ever celebrated the latter yet myself. Casimir Pułaski Day is a U.S. holiday, but in celebration of an immigrant group - outstanding food if you know where to go. :)

Thanksgiving - food and a nice break from school.
New Years - No school. It's nice as long as I don't have to go to the Rose Parade.
Independence Day - I get to hang around the pier and stuff myself with churros.
Christmas - Same as Thanksgiving. Although, I'm nearing age where my relatives consider me too old to get money for Christmas.:(

As for the rest of holidays, I'm either in school or I don't celebrate them.

Halloween and random people's birthdays are the best times to get wasted, X-mas gives me a whole month off of school this year so I am liking it. On the other hand I find that Remembrance day (Veterans day) is the most meaningful holiday to me, becuse it repersents something more tangible to me.

Also I wish I could have done more to celebrate 6/06/06 but I had the appendicitis, and to this day I can't help but think that might have been a sign but then I just say like hell it was.

I usually enjoy most of them, if only because it involves an excuse to get together with friends and/or family and have fun.

I've never actually celebrated Hanukkah, though, and there aren't any parties for April Fools, so I didn't choose those.

This year has been a bit of an odd year, in that a lot of holiday get-togethers have either fallen through or been stressful instead of fun. Christmas is looking like it might be the same. =(
