Moving and starting over

Has anyone ever decided that they needed to move away from their current location and start new somewhere else? How did that work out, did it work out well, bad, etc.?

I ask because I'm thinking about doing that, mainly because I don't think there's anything left for me in North Carolina. I may move to another state and start fresh.

I've considered it mostly for work. Sadly, the south is the only place where it would be easy to find a job, and I don't want to live in the south.

It's a smart person who doesn't want to live in the South. Most importantly, there is no skiing.

Check out Northwestern PA. Specifically, I used to live in a place called Erie, PA. They've got significant facilities for small aircraft pilots (you), and there's more bars than restaurants (awesomeness). Oh, and if you're a fan of Greek sauce, it can be added to any item on the menu, at most pubs and restaurants, for only $1.

Whatever you do don't move to Ohio, we're in trouble...then again who isn't? Oh well, my advice is find somewhere where no one knows you, you know, clean slate and whatnot. That way you can shape yourself however you want.

Although, somehow, it's still hovering in the 80 degree F range. That's soon to change.

I have moved from Philadelphia to NYC, to Savannah, Ga now to NC. Every move had its ups and downs, but it has gotten me to where I am today, and I don't regret a single minute of it, and neither should you...if you feel a change of scenery is nescessary, then do it. No matter what happens, you will at least have the satisfaction that you did it. Not many people have that feeling in life.

I don't know the exact temperature, but it's certainly low 50's, probably dropping into the low 40's tonight. It'll probably be well below freezing in the Sierras.

Yes, Northern and Southern California are very different. "Chilly" for So-Cal is a normal day in June for San Francisco. 400 miles apart will do that.

A couple of years ago, it got into the low 40s and high 30s for a good week or so... Caused a shit ton of damage in the agricultural business.

Considering the temperatures leading up to that point in time were about the same as they are now, I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see something similar happen again.

True. He's told me to move to Cali and claims that they have a little bit of everything all in one state. My argument is usually either "Yes...however, your state takes up the space from Maine to DC" or "Yeah...including wildfires"

I'm pretty happy being able to drive up into Maine or Vermont or New Hampshire for skiing, North and South shores of Boston for beach, mountains in CT and MA...yeah...we have everything too. Just more cruched together.

Ever seen the BBC show "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin"? I packed in my whole lifestyle and moved from NYC to Vermont with no job, nowhere to live and only $1500 to my name, precisely to get away from the way I was living and the people I was living that way with. Only both it and they followed me. Just like in that nightmarish show, before I knew what I was about, I was doing all the same shit, with all the same people (literally).

You're gonna hate me then, I've already been to Banff this year. Gotta love the early season snow... and rocks.

But back on topic, starting over in a brand new place is pretty cool. A shock to the system no doubt, but thats what makes life exciting. I would hate my life if I had to stay in the same place doing the same thing all the time and I don't hate many things.

First off, please don't call it "Cali," lol. I can't stand that. Its abbreviation is CA, which is not hard to type, lol.

Oh yes.

I've reached that point in my life now. After 10 years at university I've finally graduated and am really looking forward to the next stage in my life, teaching at German high-school.

And I do need to move to a different city, too. Not that it's not nice here, but I definitely feel like I need to move on. I've lived in the same apartment for the whole time now - and not only do I need more space, I need a different place. So far I've lived in three different places for a longer period of time: at home, in NC, and now here.

So far, so good. Two years ago I retired, sold my home and moved from California to Colorado - all within the space of a month. So far it's worked out well. I couldn't have lived on my pension in California. I definitely could not have continued working where I was (without killing someone). Colorado is slower paced than California, the people are more courteous, the air is cleaner (I did say I was from Southern California, didn't I). On the whole, once the shock of the whole thing was over (My mother also died in that time period), it worked out quite well.

Nah, if you're moving to Scotland, try Stirling or Edinburgh. Stirling has the amenities and title of a city, whilst enjoying the size and atmosphere of a town, whereas Edinburgh is just a better, posher city.

Glasgow is just rubbish. Whenever you're there, don't stray too far away from Buchanan street, and you'll be just fine.

Bollocks.

Glasgow has a better cultural scene, far more friendly populace and is generally a much more vibrant place than Edinburgh. Plus, you're not mobbed by tourists throughout the year. I say this as someone who grew up in Edinburgh, then moved to Glasgow. Best move I ever made.

Fair enough. I was far too hasty to write off Glasgow in it's entirety as "rubbish". There are certainly many parts of Glasgow that are far more worthy of a better description. The museums in particular are quite enjoyable, especially the Transport Museum, and Kelvingrove. Of course, there's also Buchanan street, and the Theatre.

NASCAR sucks anyway. ''Woohoo, I can go around an oval for hours!'' :roll eyes:

I don't mind the sport itself, Hell I watch some Nascar race (like Bristol, 40 cars on a 1 mile oval...fun times.) but the fact that Concord and Kannapolis seem to elevate one redneck to God-like status just because he bit it while he was racing....ugh.
