I have a ton of oatmeal. Unfortunately, I have no milk to make it with.

I do, however, have Egg Nog.

Should I put the Egg Nog in the Oatmeal?

I use water. Tastes just as good to me.

But yes, do use egg nog. That's gotta be worth trying once. :p

I think it's a little different from your porridge, judging by boxes I've seen at the import store.

The more I think about it, the more I think egg nog would go well mixed 3:1 with water, with flavors like Pumpkin Spice (the new one from Quaker) or Cinnamon Bun. Maybe even with Apple Cinnamon.

Get some decent milk, a little sugar and NOTHING ELSE BUT OATS. Then make porridge and be happy without yer cinnamon crap.

Egg nog = milk, cream, sugar and egg, flavored with cinnamon and/or nutmeg. Makes sense that it could replace milk in oatmeals that are also cinnamon-flavored, no? That was the thinking on that.

I don't know. It consists mainly of oats. You put water or milk in (tastes better with milk, hence why I am considering egg nog) and heat it up and it gets all mushy. Then you can put sugar or whatever on it if you want. Or not, if you prefer.

When I'm too lazy to make my own, I like:

Cinnamon Bun (w/ added cinnamon and sometimes walnuts)
Raisin, Date, and Walnut (again, more walnuts added)
Apple Cinnamon
Pumpkin

But homemade is always best.

Nice! I wouldn't have thought of that. In fact, I hated the taste of buttermilk so much as a kid that I haven't tried it in 20+ years, even though I love buttermilk pancakes. I'm thinking I might need to get re-acquainted with that old friend, too.

I could imagine liking horchata with rum or whisky added (though my memories of those spirits' flavors are *very* distant), but soy? Sounds odd.

Edit: yup - a quick search tells me horchata with rum is popular in some circles.

Instant oatmeal and storebought eggnog? *winces*

Buy regular oatmeal and cook it according to directions on the box. When it's at the proper delicious consistency, season to taste - I prefer brown sugar, a little butter and half and half. The half and half will more than make up for the cholesterol lowering properties of the oatmeal and it tastes damned good. Now I'm hungry for oatmeal. Damn you.

Actually I'm pretty sure there ARE eggs in it, just not raw unprocessed ones. They could pasteurize the eggs in the shell before adding them to the nog, or they could make the nog then pasteurize it with the eggs already in.

Throw out the porridge/instant oatmeal. Fry up all kinds of bacon with real maple syrup. Drink rum. Add some rum to the bacon because breakfast experiment are the best experiments. Fry up some eggs in the leftover maplerumgrease. May as well do some of your eggnog pancakes as well. Finish of the rest of the rum, pull out the whiskey. Have a damn good breakfast. Pour the soy milk down the toilet. Flush.

But then I'll have less food...

I don't have either of these currently and getting them would cost money, which I don't have.

Drink rum.
Can't do this for same reasons as above

See above

I do, however, have eggs.

i always make oatmeal in water, then add either chocklet, or mayonaise and onions, just like i would for pancakes.

(it was a french canadian guy who told me about mayonaise and onions on pancakes, which he treated me to, and i liked it)

there's a lot of other things you can do with oatmeal to, interesting things you wouldn't normally otherwise think of. oatmeal cookies are of course obvious, but there's lots of other things like in sauces and gravies, and then also as stuffings.

as for eggnog, i wouldn't try cooking in it, because after all the raw egg, when cooked becomes cooked egg, but putting it ON your oatmeal sounds not all that much unlike my putting chocklet on it. i'd let the oatmeal cool a bit before doing so, for the same reason i wouldn't cook it with it.

cooking with eggnog is another things, recipies that involve eggs and milk and sugar, can certainly use eggnog substitution in proportion.
