It's about 30 minutes, and it shows Russia's actual position on the South Ossetian War. Why did I post it so late? Well I'm lazy, and only now did I find something with English subtitles :p
So please watch and comment. And tell me if you want to see a poll :D
Ok, I put in a poll - please watch it before voting though!

I want to see a poll, but but only if it has nothing to do with the OP...

I was joking about the constant line of the right about having "looked into Putin's eyes and saw three letters..."

Ahh, the famed "I looked into his eyes and I saw K-G-B!" It's FSB now, damn McCain really needs to get with the times.

Nice "objective" poll you made..

Nice "objective" poll you made..
Fair enough: give me your options and I'll consider changing it. It has to answer two questions thought
What you thought of Russia's Involvement in the South Ossetian War:
A. Before the Video?
B. After the Video?
Answers could be:
Legit, Legit
Non-legit, Legit
Non-legit, Non-legit
Your thoughts? And do watch the damn video before voting.
Nice "objective" poll you made..
Like its anything new or surprising that the OP's bias shows through in the poll...

My opinion of Putin is at the end. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzRQG7EqKeo&feature=channel)
Sorry, it was required. ;)
But, in some seriousness, I don't think Russia was in the wrong on this one.

What do you suggest be the options?
Well, I haven't watched the videos, and to be perfectly honest I didn't anything horribly wrong with the poll options.

Well, I haven't watched the videos, and to be perfectly honest I didn't anything horribly wrong with the poll options.
The poll was written so that the options make sense to most after they watch the video, but I'm not trying to be biased here, just trying to get people to watch the damn thing and have a discussion on it.

And without watching the videos (don't have the patience for it right now) I see no problem with your poll options, my response to AM had little to do with this thread and more to do with past history of NSG. Invariably when someone makes a poll it ends up being slanted towards their views.

Nice "objective" poll you made..
Yeah, it's irritating when polls are used as a gimmick. A really good poll does actually give a very reliable sense of what the posters who read the thread believe.
I remember full well how many NSGers took the Georgian side when the war broke out. They just sucked down the Western media's version without chewing.

Those would do. Avoid words like "even after watching", which after the previous three options try to influence people to feel dumb for choosing that option. Very nice propaganda tactics btw - congrats ;)
You should in additon add: Legit, Non-legit
It would also be nice if you included some options for the people that are disgusted by the video, but will not change their opinion.

I haven't seen one person who was disgusted by the video. Quite frankly if people are disgusted by this, I don't really care what they think, so I chose not to include that in the poll. Two people having a intelligent conversations - how in the World are you "being disgusted"? What part of the video to you "find disgusting"?

I've thought Russia was the lesser aggressor since about day 2 or 3 of the conflict. Reports were that Georgia had started the fighting, and it would appear that these reports were correct.
Of course, about the only American media figure with that view was Alex Jones.

Voted but... Nothing really new.
You have been lazy indeed, the video has been posted the 30th of August... ;)
Anyways, IRC some evidence of US involvement in the conflict were really found but Russia didn't press the case. The idea of some jackass engineering this from the US doesen't seem so farfetched to me. Actually I read somewhere that one of McCain aides had proposed giving more weapons to the georgians so that they could fight in the name of liberty as the chechenians did.
i'll take anything from cnn with a large grain of salt. and i'm on restricted sodium.
america told georga lets you and him fight, and russia couldn't very well have attacked the u.s. directly, although appealing to the u.n. for tighter temporary sanctions against the u.s. would not have been unreasonable.
(i think there's a link about this from one of the recent transcripts on democracy now, with sources and so on)
hopefully obama will stand such nonsense down, as he presumably is looking into, but can't really do anything about untill after enaugeration.
(as for youtube videos, do you have any idea how long it takes to download 30 minutes over dialup?
yah, and i don't have cable either. someday i may get broadband, but not this month and probably not next)

BTW I think that Putin referred to this:
Little girl talks about war in South Ossetia (http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=G3rH-Jf3BnM)
Nice way to have a piece of news blow up in your face Mr. Anchorman. Have a 12 years old girl saying "I just wanna say that I was running from georgian troops bombing our city. Not russian troops. I wanna say thank you to the russian troops that were helping us out."

I actually do have idea.... Start the downloading, pause the video and go fix yourself something to eat. Then eat it. Then go brush your teeth. Then watch a movie on TV. Check if downloading is finished. Read a book. Check if downloading is finished. etc.
In about 2-3 hours you can have the whole video downloaded ;)

I didn't vote on your poll since it didn't have an option that pertained to me.
I don't think the Russian response was bad, considering it seems Georgia started it, however I do feel that Russia took steps which, on their own resulted in an escalation of tensions in the region. Such as more or less recognizing and supporting the separatist movements in Georgia, however I don't know how they could have avoided them considering the actions of Georgia. Preferably a solution to these problems would have been reached before these events occurred, I think all parties involved were put in a tight spot.

Watch the video. South Osetia is only a part of Georgia because Comrade Stalin re-drew the lines on the map. North and South Osetia are both historically part of Russia. Furthermore, it would appear that an overwhelming majority of Osetians want to be Russians. Georgia is the aggressor.
In this video (http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=G3rH-Jf3BnM), mentioned above, a girl says that cell phones didn't work and that Georgian troops were the attackers. Sounds like premeditated destruction of infrastructure designed to hide the attack.

Not necessarily to hide the attack. I doubt the S. Ossetian government could afford proper commo equipment for their militias so cell phones are probably their primary means of communication. Disabling the cell phones was probably more to prevent any sort of rapid, organized response on the part of the Ossetian military more than anything. Prevent dissemination of the news to news agencies would just be icing on the cake.

Curiosity made me check teh wiki to look up some maps of pre-Soviet Georgia. Here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/41/DRGMap.png) it looks like independent Georgian state that existed from 1918 to 1921 included South Ossetia. Here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/Geor_tamro_aandersen.GIF) is a map of medieval Georgia - also included. Here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/82/Georgia_map_1762.jpg) Georgia in 1762, and ancient Georgia here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Colchisiberiamapandersen.jpg) - guess what I'm gonna say. So what has happened there? Did Stalin not do anything? Is wiki-Minitrue at large?
