humans have the stronger drive to express themselves creatively. objectively that is the only thing that distinguishes them from other liveforms they share their planets with. it even, basically defines the "human" or top sentient of a life form inhabited planet.

art is not a spectator sport, however much worshipers of symbolic value would have it so, but rather everything a creative member of a creative species does, or nearly so.

it certainly ISN'T that only top sentients can DO "art" either.

art criticism defines art as something, pretty much in any media, that affects us emotionally in some way. personally i've never been entirely happy with that deffinician.

my own is both more and less subjective, or perhapse rather, less concerned with whether an illustration or just a bunch of pretty shapes and colors can be called art or not, but rather if it gives me, for lack of a more universally unambiguous phrase, a positive vibe. one that i can feel/see, as a positive thing, as beauty, as adding beauty or at lest prettyness and/or gratification in some form, to the world(s) we all have to live in.

Art does not have to affect one emotionally to be art.
