Yup, I couldn't believe it either. It just seems so ridiculous. :eek2:

Associated Press Writer= LOS ANGELES (AP) - An Oregon man who was fatally shot as he wielded samurai swords and tried to attack guests at a landmark Scientology building had been involved in "prior incidents" with the church, police said Monday.

Mario Majorski, 48, was shot once by a security guard as he tried to use the swords to attack guests at the Scientology Celebrity Centre in Hollywood on Sunday, Detective Wendi Berndt said.

Berndt said that the Scientology church and security guards were already familiar with Majorski, and that he had been associated with the church in the "distant past." She did not elaborate on the earlier dealings.

"The security people were aware of him through some prior incidents," Berndt said.

The shooting will be reviewed by the district attorney's office, but police were treating the killing as justifiable.

"The security guard had to take action to prevent the deceased from killing or maiming people on the premises," Berndt said.

Security surveillance tape showed Majorski arrived around noon in a red convertible, then approached the guards with a sword in each hand before he was shot, Berndt said. She said the tape would not be released to the public because it was too graphic. No other weapons were found in the car, which Berndt said she thought was a rental.

Majorski was pronounced dead at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

Public records show he had been associated with a string of addresses in Los Angeles County and in Oregon over the last two decades. He filed for bankruptcy in 2000.

Messages left at a Scientology media line were not returned Monday.

The Celebrity Centre is a turreted, castle-like landmark in Hollywood that serves as "a home for the artist, a place where he can come and learn, attend seminars, meet other artists and even perform at our many showcases and events," according to the Centre's Web site.

The Church of Scientology was established in 1945 by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard and claims 10 million members around the world. It likes to cultivate celebrity followers, and among its more famed acolytes are Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

And if the guy had somehow managed to even wound Tom Cruise you know Anon would have turned that into a "Revenge of the Samurai" meme.

Still, celebrating the death of someone especially mentally disturbed? Not so awesome.

The article says he was shot as he attempted to attack guests, or implies so, but later states he was shot by guards as he approached them with swords in each hand. There needs to be more information, or preferably, video footage.

It would never happen, Scientology has a crack team of lawyers, and would drive the production company and everyone who worked on the film to bankruptcy.

How else do you think they were able to avoid lawsuits on the many deaths that occur on their properties?

Well, wading knee-deep into the Anon WhyWeProtest forums seems to indicate the guy was a former Scientologist, and that there's some serious bullshit going on. The Church claims the guy left 15 years ago; Anon dug up stuff indicating he was involved as recently as 2004 and filed for bankruptcy at least twice, along with a scattering of other legal woes. Regarding the actual attack, he never got anywhere close enough to the complex to attack anybody before he was gunned down.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out of this, if anything.

I'll add that I bet the guy needed psychiatric treatment and hadn't been getting any, thus further leading to the wannabe-samurai attack.

Dunno about nothing coming from it though. This is the first major "Suspicious death tangentially related to Scientology" incident since Anonymous started their campaign at the beginning of this year. Between the Anon efforts, and the publicity because it was the Celebrity Center, there might be just enough public interest in the story now to keep the media's teeth in it, and thus maybe the police due to that attention.

Humans can use nearly anything for violent purposes if the need is great enough.

If a rabid beast were combing at me and all I had were a towel, a bar of soap, a toothbrush and a butter knife I'd certainly try to use those for self defense as best I can.

Besides like many others you are attacking the symptom not the cause.

You should research the cause in order to determine the proper solution.

You do realize that it's because of Scientology's Legal Team that they were able to get away with over 200 deaths related to Scientology (http://www.factnet.org/discus/messages/26600/1367.html?1177378621)

People have tried to sue them before, but thanks to the legal team, they're either intimitated into dropping it, or they settle out of court. How else do you think they were able to pull off Operation Snow White? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White)

Do not underestimate Scientology.

Clearwater, FL Police are already in Scientology back pocket. I'm sure they have other police agency in their back pocket at their other HQs.

most of hose deaths seem to just be people that happened to be a part of Scientology and it's not the cause. There's probably many more Christians that died and killed in the same ways.

Not that Scientology's all good, it gave us the Battlefield Earth movie.

Wow. I am appalled by the insanity of this case.

He should have started the assault by picking off the guards with a rifle, then stormed the compound with a pair of Uzi's, and finally broke out the swords for the close in work... he had it all backwards!

Ah, maybe in his next life he will get it right... his Thetan will hopefully get a body that is more tactically inclined. (Scientologists teach that your soul = your Thetan, and rip off the hindi idea of reincarnation).
