Indonesia mandates RFID for HIV patients

Putting a little chip in them so that they can be tracked and identified.
But legislator John Manangsang said by implanting small computer chips beneath the skin of "sexually aggressive" patients, authorities would be in a better position to identify, track and ultimately punish those who deliberately infect others with up to six months in jail or a $5,000 fine.
I fail to see how this would prevent someone from deliberately infecting someone else.
What, is everyone going to carry around an RFID sensor ("hey, you have a chip!")...?

Those papuan lawmakers liked 1984 a little bit too much.
Does seem completely useless without a way to detect the chips. Stud finder will pick one up I believe.

im thinking that those who cannot be bothered to insist on condoms for sex will also not be bothered to check for an hiv chip in their partners.
nor will it help with all those who have not yet been diagnosed, leaving those in possession of an rfid detector with a false sense of security.
Useless. Now if they combined that with a mandatory skull and crossbones tattoo on their foreheads.....

Well, it's starting.
"This chip is for your own protection and the protection of others!"
When will healthy people get it too?

If it wern't for the massive risk of abuse, I would say that everyone should have vital medial info on them at all times (RFID makes an ideal way to constantly have it)
Sadly, the risk is just too high

I fail to see any benefit in this.

Yep. That's idiotic.
There was a short sci-fi story ("The Problem Pit", cannot remember the author). Anyway, in this story, a guy came up with an idea about STDs: anyone who voluntarily subjects himself to regular medical checks on STDs, and is found not infected, is given a bracelet or something like that, sporting the date of the last medical control and a sort of "STD health test passed OK". A way of saying "it's (almost) safe to have sex with me".
This, maybe, would be a more sensible approach - discounting the problems with forged bracelets, of course.
