The Subject of Procrastination once again!
So yes I'm procrastinating. I should be writing an essay about the law and ethics that affect investigative journalism, but instead I'm listening to The Clash, checking Facebook, browsing NSG and deciding what wacky out fit I shall wear for my friends birthday tonight. All in all not what I should be doing.
Why is procrastination a part of life?! How do you procrastinate? Why do you procrastinate? Are you procrastinating right now?

are you going to be a journalist?
i dont think of it as procrastinating. i think of it as waiting for the perfect time.

I can honestly say I've spent most of my life procrastinating and I'd say I'm pretty proud of myself :p
I procrastinate because I just can't be bothered and the internet is full of porn
deciding what wacky out fit I shall wear for my friends birthday tonight. All in all not what I should be doing.
this is oddly what I should be doing right now :eek2:

Hoping to. I wonder if I can keep pushing back deadlines. Also this just gave me time to watch the Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe storyline trailer.*glee*

I should be preparing student grades, and here I am... ;)
Thing is, it WILL be done by dinner time so I can go out with my parents. The truth is I already have the grades figured out -- it's how this LAST TEST I gave yesterday may fidget the grades up a few points or down a few points that I am interested in seeing.
And no, I can't bag them -- they HAVE to be done.... but it's only 9am here. ;)
And procrastination is part of life because we'd all rather be doing something fun, rather than tedious but necessary.

well you do have 2 things that most journalists lack (or is it only the tv journalists)
you are smart and you cant put sentences together and make sense with them.
all you need is the burning desire to succeed.

Hell yeah! I have six papers due within ~30 hours and here I am on NSG! :eek2:
I have that desire to succeed. I think I've hit burnout. A whole week of essay writing is not good for me.

I just got up. I went to bed early (for me) -- somewhere around 11:30pm I think.

Somebody with the burning desire to succeed should probably not go into journalism. At least, not in the UK and not now.

it is a bad time to enter journalism but there is always room at the top for the best and the most ambitious.
I've got two 3 credit papers due right away...one on Human Rights Law, and the other for Professional Responsibility. I have very little time during my regular day to work on these things so this weekend is essential to me. I'm totally slacking already. Have been slacking all along.
Avoidance coping. You just let things go, don't think about them, then you start getting stressed because deadlines are looming, then the adrenaline hits, you become very unpleasant to be around, you work like a madperson just to make up for the time you've wasted, you barely get your project in, and you start it all over. Ugh.
I think I have that drive. Hopefully my website for new bands will give me that stepping stone. It was already nominated for a blogger's choice award.

I was just about to edit my previous post, along the lines of: 'Sorry, shouldn't be hassling you with my jaded hack mentality.'
But, frankly, anyone who find that off-putting isn't going to make it in journalism. So, Londim: go for it. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a career, it should still be one hell of an experience.

Indeed. I've never once regretted getting into journalism - it can offer you all sorts of experiences that you'd probably never have otherwise.
I've met honest criminals, a likeable murderer, a Tory MP that I quite like... even a policeman with a sense of humour.
Congratulations.

Yes I am that one. Want to get involved? You make a load of friends in bands through it and at the moment I'm on the guest list for the album launch party of one the bands I reviewed.

I love those kinds of experiences.
In my opinion, procrastination is simply giving yourself a time trial for later. "How much can I get done in that small amunt of time?"
So, yes, I procrastinate a lot. I have a project due Monday I was supposed to start two weeks ago. Crap, I have to do that....

Thanks, but I don't think now's the time for me. I live in someplace far away and I am unfamiliar with the music scene.

You dare call yourself a procrastinator, you bring shame and dishonor to the procrastination Gods!
You are not worthy to be among us Great Procrastinators.
We who have taken our could be put to better use time and turned the art of procrastination into an science.
We who have made the phrase: "Why do today, what you can put off to tomorrow", mean nothing.
We who have coin the new phrase" Why do today, what you can put off forever by getting someone else to do it".
We who have dedicated our life to the pursuit of procrastination and it's meaning.
We who have made procrastination more then a catch world, but a way of life.
We who have resolved to delay the inevitable for all time, because my good friend, that is what we do.
Are we procrastinating right now, your damn right we are!

I procrastinate because I would rather do what I want to do than what I should be doing...
...but my therapist says that it's actually because I am achievement motivated and self doubting. That if I work really hard and fail, then I might identify myself with my failing, and lose self esteem. On the other hand, he argues that if I procrastinate, that even though I doom myself to a lower grade, that way I have an excuse for my failure (i.e., not doing what I was supposed to do, something that really doesn't say anything about my intrinsic worth or capabilities) and I don't devalue my self esteem.
Taadaa!
PS: This post was just written and posted whilst procrastinating.

I don't remember the last time I had a paper done more than a day or so in advance. It's been at least a month since it's been more than the night before. I just can't work without the pressure on me.
It's a very delicate balance. You have to get to the point were it's close enough that you have all the pressure, but far enough that you can get it done. And there can't be anything good on TV in that period. Which means you may need to plan your procrastination ahead of time. What?

I hate the fact that I procrastinate... but i dont know how to stop. every time I procrastinate, I always end up doing something without enough time to do it. with everything I have to do at school, I am capable of getting an A, but because I procrastinate, I always end up getting 70's/100.
I always feel immensly stressed out every time I do two or three BIG assignments over the weekend. When its over, I always SWEAR to myself that I wont do it again, but for some reason I always do.
I have literally squandered multiple opportunities to learn about interesting things because of procrastination. I am starting to feel as though I will never be able to fix this problem.
Lately, I have begun to feel like a failure at life. I've become depressed and dont what to do. I want to do better and solve my problems, I just dont know how.
Procrastination, in my humble opinion, is an easy way not to live. Its just like trainspotting...
I'll have a real answer to this thread tomorow...

At first it feels good but in the end you realise you have just been fucking yourself.
