How about creating something analogous to marriage with different terminology that way homosexuals can have the same rights yet at teh same time keep religious folk happy? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDBtjihpVFg)

On a more serious note, if it's equal rights they're after why the hell do they need to get "married"? Couldn't they create something exactly like marriage but termed differently so as to ovoid hostilities with religion?

What Khadgar said. But I'm bored so I'll actually answer, with three simple words.

Separate but equal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separate_but_equal)

*yawn*

- "Religious folk" do not all agree on this subject, by a long shot.
- Religious concerns do not have any place in legal matters.
- "Separate but equal" has not exactly had a history of working out well.

Legal or not Religion and homosexuality will be locked in contentious battle as the everyone else gets annoyed by their bickering.

Also 2008=/= 1960s

Back then the whites controlled everything so the equality was a myth, now if I'd bet the homosexuals will be able to control their end as everyone else just sticks to theirs thus concluding this civil rights long haul.
