I'm looking for a youtube version for those poor souls who can't see that. It's a conversation between CNN's Rick Sanchez and a Kansas Minister named Mark Holick who put up a controversial sign regarding Barack Obama.

Hehehe, yeah, I'll bet he'd "word it differently" if he "had it to do over again." Jackass. When Rick Sanchez can hand out such a smackdown, it's to the pastor's at least partial credit that he knows enough to back down.

so true...

but i know he was hoping that when he quoted the pope that the minister would respond by calling the pope the whore of babylon.

dont expect so much out of rick sanchez. he got through that whole interview without saying anything abysmally stupid. thats genius level for him.

although i did wonder why he defended ecumenicalism rather than keep on point that obama isnt muslim. i mean really, not being a "true christian" isnt evidence of being mulsim.

Yeah, I was thinking the same.

The minister needed a push on why he thought Obama was a follower of Islam.

Since it's Rick Sanchez, he could be confused about who the Pope is, but on the other hand, it could have been just lazy tv-speak, defaulting to the present tense for no particular reason. US tv-people do that a lot.

I agree. Maybe, if the segment had been longer, he would have gone back to it, but he clearly had all the materials to knock down the "US is a Christian nation" crap ready and prepped, so when the guy dodged that initial "why not take Obama at his word" by launching into citing scripture instead of answering, Sanchez pounced on the target he was offered.

I also would have preferred to see the guy pushed into a corner of having to either call Obama a liar, and then back up that accusation, or else back down, plus justify why being a Muslim would be so horrible, etc.

On the other hand, being able to tear apart a bogus argument on the basis of facts is less controversial than tearing apart an opinion argument on the basis of exposing bigotry. Maybe that was considered preferable for that segment.

Keep your Jesus off my penis
Keep your bible off my balls
Keep your prayers out of my ears
And your crosses off my walls
You can keep the virgin mother
And the resurrection too
Keep your Jesus off my penis
I’ll keep my penis offa you

Well, I’m frickin’ sick and tired
Of turning on the news
And seeing the religious right’s ungodly fight
To take our right to choose
When to bear our children
Who to love and how
Education and protection, if we’re just practicing for now
So W, look, obey a book
If that’s what works for you
But I don’t tell you how to pray
So don’t you tell me how to screw!

So you’re screaming bloody murder about the Taliban regime
For subjugating women and being too extreme
And basing legislation on some ancient, holy book
Does that sound a bit familiar?
Here’s a mirror, have a look!
And as for the Ten Commandments, they need one more, at least
“Thou shalt never cover up the acts of pervert priests”
Now how’d they let that happen
Unless they just abhor us?
Well, anyway, it adds another layer to the chorus!

So you’ll execute a person and then protect the single cell
But mercy kill the terminally ill and you’re going straight to Hell?
Well, I don’t know much about the word of God, far be it from me
But I can tell you what it ain’t, that’s hypo-Christianity
Well, I am not anti-Christian, before you grab a rope
There is beauty in religion
And joy and love and hope
And we’re all lookin’ for that answer
Some colossal, cosmic cause
But who the f**k are you to turn your views into my laws?

It’s just believers in the bible that would have abortion banned
Anti-choice agnostics, I could count ‘em on one hand
And as for killing babies, I’ve got but one retort:
If someone raped your daughter, George, you’d beg her to abort

And if some young girl from your church shows up with child or some infection
‘'cause you told her what a horrid sin it was to use protection
Well, one day you’ll face the pearly gates
And what you gonna say
When that long-haired, Jewish peacenick sends your ass the other way

Sayin’ keep your Jesus off my penis
Keep your bible off my balls
Keep your prayers out of my ears
And your crosses off my walls
I’ve had it up to here with all the biblobile you spew
So keep your Jesus off my penis
Well, at least that’s what I would do
Yeah, keep your Jesus off my penis
I’ll keep my penis off of you
That’s if’n you want me to

On a tangent, wouldn't it be funny if Obama had an evil sense of humor? Opening up his inaugural speech with "ALLAHU AKBAR!!"

Then after a few seconds...

"So... how many of y'all crapped in your pants after I said that?"

I especially enjoyed the part when Pastor Hollick said something along the lines of "the wall of separation [between church and state] was one way, that the state would not interfere with the church, but certainly the church had every right and even a duty to its elected officials".

It's a fucking wall, Jacktard. Even when speaking figuratively, walls work both ways. Unless, of course, we consider Jefferson and Madison's rarely quoted letters in which they reference "the rope and grappling hook of God, which allows all those of sufficient zeal to scale the wall of separation, and rape and pillage the laws of our great nation."

Maybe that's what he meant.

I'm surprised though that he didn't go for the knockout blow: http://www.stephenjaygould.org/ctrl/treaty_tripoli.html

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

The standard religious nutjob argument against Article 11 of the ToT is something like this:

"Of COURSE they'd say that, they wanted a treaty with MUSLIMS! They had to agree to appear as benign as possible to win the Muslims' cooperation and signatures."

I don't buy it, but some people do.

It's an especially lame argument because it assumes that the dynamic between the US and Muslim countries was the same then as it is now AND that the US was more afraid of Muslims then than now.
