Dishes

Washing the dishes is something we all pretty much have to do, hell even if you have a dishwasher you have to rinse the dishes (essentially washing them) of almost all the sticky crap on them. So before I go to sleep I have a simple question for all of us on NSG.

What is your least favorite dish to wash?

What is the hardest thing to wash off of your dishes?

My least favorite thing to wash is actually portable coffee mugs, my hands don't fit into them at all well and I have to spend several minutes scrubbing in an attempt to clean the gunk out of the bottom.

The hardest thing to wash off of dishes is the cheese sauce I make to put on macaroni and cheese and scalloped potatoes. That stuff bakes right on to my pans and has to be soaked in water overnight before it will come the fuck off.

Burned on fat from using my grill without putting down foil under it before cooking is what I find hardest to shift.

The thing I hate to wash most is refrigerator storage containers - usually they've been in the fridge long enough for the contents to become biohazards. The hardest thing to wash - the cookie sheet that I put under casseroles, pies, etc in the oven; the overflow is baked into a nearly diamond hard mass the is proof against soaking, scrubbing, putty knives, flame throwers, nukes ... and, of course, the cookie sheet is non-stick, so removing the baked on stuff means ruining the sheet.

Ummm, lids for shit are pretty hard to wash. They have like 90 degree bends and little gaps and nothing in you cleaning arsenal can reach in a get that crap out.

And I'd say the hardest stuff to wash off is crap that has been baked, like cheese sauce or lasagna. The kind of stuff where if you get to it quickly it's all right but if left forgotten for two or three hours where it then has a chance to dry it out...

sharp knives suck when they are hidden in the soapy goodness as for the stains I would go for...well yeah burned on fat especially from a barbecue

I never thought I'd see the day that NSG, formerly such a hotbed of political, social, moral, and religious debate would be discussing which dish is the hardest to wash.

It's a refreshing change, isn't it.

It's sad, that's what it is.

And thus is my mission on NSG. :)

WTF does shift mean? I always thought it was what you did to a car not eggs.

A well seasoned cast iron pan will solve all your egg problems. Not only do they taste much better, but they are much easier to cook well on a cast iron pan.

The worst thing to clean off dishes is melted cheese that had time to solidify. It's like cement.

cast iron grill pan, and burnt on egg or cheese. Or both.

Cup cake tins are hard too wash because cake mixture, especially gluten free cake mixture, gets stuck to the sides. Sometimes it's easier to throw them out.

Wine glasses are hard to hand wash because I always break them, because I'm like that.

I learned to harness the miraculous power of good old water to ease the burden of dishwashing. I either wash things out with very hot water the instant the food comes out of them, before the dregs cake on, or I soak the dishes/pans in water for a long time, to loosen burnt/caked on dregs. Works like a charm, every single time. For very stubborn dregs on things like grill pans, I sometimes boil water in them for a few minutes. That will loosen anything. Then you just whisk it all away with a dish brush.

Use a baby bottle brush, especially on flutes.

That's what those paper cupcake cups are for. You know, you put them in the tin sections and fill them up with batter... the cupcakes/muffins don't even touch the tin.

Wine glasses are hard to hand wash because I always break them, because I'm like that.
Me too. I gave up on stemware -- since I always break the stems off them anyway. I am grateful to the designer who invented the new wine glasses without stems.

Almost any sauce that you have left out to dry overnight. Also mashed potato is something hard to shift.

Oh come on. Cast iron pans are super easy to clean. You don't. Just wipe them out with a paper towel and some pam when they're new. Nothing sticks, cleans easy, and the food tastes great.
