One of those "What was that song called?" threads

One of those totally random, essentially pointless threads about a largely irrelevent topic, but there's a dramatic, Latinate piece of music often used in TV/movie soundtracks/trailers for dramatic effect, and for the life of me I can't remember its name. I'm planning to use it in a small video I'm editing together (It's nothing important or large-scale, it's primarily just a sequence of clips from Avatar that I'm planning on e-mailing to a friend since he hasn't seen the finale yet), but I don't know how to get it if I don't know the title.

The only trailer I can think of off the top of my head with the track is for South park: Bigger Longer & Uncut (Found here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLnqZqQ1eW0&feature=related)), does anybody recognize the audio playing in the background? All I want is the title, is that too much to ask for?

1812 Overture (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo48YpNOesQ&feature=related), if your talking about the one at the very end.

Is it this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gaCwfX8at0&feature=related)?
Lux Aeterna?

Oh, it's definitely not Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, that I would recognize.

EDIT: And it does seem similar Lux Aeterna, but I don't think that's it.

Yes, I'm confusing myself.

Yep...it's O Fortuna, from Karl Orff's Carmina Burana.

The only part of Carmina Burana that anybody knows. Also worth noting that the music makes the lyrics sound much grander than they actually are; the work as a whole is actually kind of humorously overdramatic.

The Carmina Burana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmina_Burana) is the counterpart of Monkish chants. The Burana contained "carnal" topics, whereas the Chants contained religious messages.

The actual song's name is "O, Fortuna". And yes, indeed it is by Carl Orff, although the music it is set to (neumes) is believed to be older than the lyrics.

O Fortuna
velut luna
statu variabilis,
semper crescis
aut decrescis;
vita detestabilis
nunc obdurat
et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem,
egestatem,
potestatem
dissolvit ut glaciem.

Sors immanis
et inanis,
rota tu volubilis,
status malus,
vana salus
semper dissolubilis,
obumbrata
et velata
michi quoque niteris;
nunc per ludum
dorsum nudum
fero tui sceleris.

Sors salutis
et virtutis
michi nunc contraria,
est affectus
et defectus
semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
sine mora
corde pulsum tangite
quod per sortem
sternit fortem,
mecum omnes plangite

'cept for the '"classical" music geeks'...

Olim Lacus Colueram is a gem in it's own right...

Indeed, as fits the subject matter rather well actually.

Talking of things often used in movies, what is the name or source of that horrific male screaming sound very commonly used in tv shows and old movies, especially war type ones? Often used just before someone is about to crash in a plane or explode or something.

Does anyone remember a music video that had (and this is the best description I can come up with) flying cardboard cut-out hitlers with fighter jet wings? Surprisingly google doesn't give me much with the keywords 'flying hitler music video'

So, ah. There's this old, 30's or 40's song sung by a woman, and it's like about how 'she's my little girl friend,' and there's this bit about where they like to go 'shopping, shopping shopping shopping shopping' or something.

I don't remember where or when I heard it and I can only barely remember it. Might have been German? Anyone have any clue?

It's "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi", the opening and closing movements from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. It's been used all over TV and films.

Nope. "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" is the name of both movements (#1 and #25, opening and closing). #19 "In Taberna" was used for the drugstore scene in Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers, but yeah, "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" is by far the most commonly known movement from that work.

The whole test is largely a combination of monks' complaints about the monastic lifestyle and fantasies and revelries they get into when it's party time and nobody's looking.

So, ah. There's this old, 30's or 40's song sung by a woman, and it's like about how 'she's my little girl friend,' and there's this bit about where they like to go 'shopping, shopping shopping shopping shopping' or something.

Can you give us any more information?
