How in the hell is seafood 'not meat', it's the flesh of an animal right? It's not from a mammal, neither is Turkey, it's not red meat, but neither is pork. What is your definition of meat?

Sorry, but when I was vegan I got really REALLY tired of the "but you eat fish right?" No. I didn't eat any animals nor anything that came from them.

Shit, this is tough (no pun intended). Mmmm, moose and bovine steak are both good. So are pork chops. And I love pork ribs. Bison makes the best hamburger, much leaner than beef. Turkey is great in sandwiches. Grouse is tasty, but you need a lot of 'em. And bacon fried up with maple syrup is absolutely awesome in the mornings. Wild salmon = best fish ever.

For all my love of the pork, other meats deserve an honourable mention. I had a mixed grill today with steak, chicken, lamb, bacon, sausages. Its all good shizzle, even if I do ultimately prefer the piggies. I think veggies must be mad to miss out on the meaty goodness. Only downside is the pub seemed to have cooked the meal in a blast furnace.

I don't attach any morality to it, it's meat, I mean you probably shouldn't abuse the animals, or something because that would be wrong, but I don't think it's immoral to eat meat.

I guess it's not really the taste either, although I don't think any of it tastes good. Lots of other food tastes good, like asparagus or carrots or beans. Meat is just....I guess, it's the idea of it, the smell of it raw, the pictures in my head of when my uncle slaughtered my pet cow in front of me. It's just gross.

I know some vegetarians that eat fish (although I can't say the same for vegans). I imagine it's just cultural; for some reason, seafood and meat have always been considered something separate. Just look at the Catholic tradition of eating fish on Fridays because you're not allowed to eat meat.

I voted for seafood. There are bigger differences among the tastes of seafood than among the taste of mammals or even birds.

Man oh man! What a tough decision. I picked beef but I also love the dark meat of chicken, most fish (including squid, shrimp, and shell fish) and lamb.
Pork is OK but not one of my preferred meats as it is easily overcooked and comes out rather dry just like white meat chicken.

Mrs C is in Louisiana taking care of getting the new house set up and closed. I'm here in OK land still working and trying to get this house sold. I can't wait until I retire, get to Louisiana, and get some of Mrs C's great curries and oriental dishes. Oh, and experiment with some Cajun food.

I've tried many different kinds of meat, they're all pretty much the same.

It's weird that you put "seafood" in the poll, because unless you mean "sea mammal" (and I hope not) then it isn't meat.

I had some bacon in a fried rice dish tonight. It was tasty (it tasted of salt actually, but whatever.)

i do not see how mussle tissue, whatever life form its origen, can be called other then meat. to call fish meat not meat is an entirely cultural and mythological pretention that defies any sort of objective logic. and i do mean true fish, as well as any other marine life form that isn't a plant.

at any rate, while some internal organs do not apeal to me as a nutrition source. i can't say as i've tasted any muscle tissue of any organism that didn't appeal to me. although there ARE many varieties i've never had the opportunity to sample.

i'm told the flesh of entirely preditory life forms, is unappealing. never had the chance as far as i know, i might take their word for it. but then, aren't there quisines that Do use dog and even cat? both of which ARE preditors.

i suppose the thought of vulture meat is unappealing and possible dangerous. again i don't really know. but some of the things chickens supposedly eat.

and then there's canabalism and inforced disguiesed canabalism feed to animals raised specificly for us to eat. i've heard somewhere spongiform enciphalitus appears at least statistically to be closely linked to this proccess, the bovine form have once been known as mad cow, and the human form alzhiemers and parkinsons.

and i have heard eating pork, which is somehow related to human 'monkey' meat is closely related. bear is like pork, only a LOT 'chewier', like chewing on something so tough its hard even to bit through it, that is, unless it's marinated correctly (which the sample i had wasn't, it tasted good, but man, dam near broke my jaw chewing on it)

and no, it DON'T all "taste like chicken". but some of it might not taste like anything previously tasted.

What about snakes, cats, kangaroo, alligator, bear, monkey, etc?

Why isn't there "others" on that list?

As for me, I actually like beef. But I wanted to point out that eating a cow is not inherently more moral than eating any other animals. Excluding humans maybe. But even that I will really question if cannibalism is so bad, in cases when the person die naturally and have given consent to be eaten. Versus say growing a cow in an industrial farm.

I've never eaten a mammal which I could mistake for fish. Nor a fish which I could mistake for mammal. They taste different!

I think you're saying that they are both meat in that they are of the animal kingdom. I say one is meat, and the other fish, because their body chemistry is very different, and you can taste that.

Name a warm-blooded fish. Name a cold-blooded mammal. Don't cheat by calling sea mammals fish, or reptiles mammal.

Tuna. There you are.
wiki:tuna
Tuna, are several species of ocean-dwelling fish in the family Scombridae, mostly in the genus Thunnus. Tunas are fast swimmers—they have been clocked at 70 km/h (45 mph)—and include several species that are warm-blooded. Unlike most fish species, which have white flesh, tuna have flesh that is pink to dark red. The red coloring comes from tuna muscle tissue's greater quantities of myoglobin, an oxygen-binding molecule.

While swordfish are cold blooded animals, they have special organs next to their eyes to heat their eyes and also their brain. Temperatures of 10 to 15 C° above the surrounding water temperature have been measured. The heating of the eyes greatly improves the vision, and subsequently improves their ability to catch prey. Out of the 25 000+ species of bony fish, only about 22 are known to have the ability to heat selected body parts above the temperature of the surrounding water. These include the swordfish, marlin, and tuna.

Tuna. There you are.

I put up this big juicy target for Cameroi, but Rambhutan and you just can't resist the chance to poach it can you?

I know shitall biology but I did google "warm blooded fish" before I posted.

My social engineering fails. I define "meat" as "mammal" and I can tell it by taste. Good night.

My favorite thing to eat is a perfectly medium-rare, well seasoned steak.
Now ill eat most meat, if you cook and season it right, you can make a good steak out of anything.
But the best steaks are made from organic, grass-fead, USDA prime beef.
Use one of those, season and cook it right, and YOU ARE IN HEAVEN

I was talking to a friend who lives in IN, and he reminded me that hunting season is open and that he's drooling for deer. The poor Bambis! That's something I always found weird about the US. They do like their deer over there quite a lot.:(

Largely because they're quite tasty.

Largely because they're quite tasty.
Also because we've driven off/killed off most of their predators and they overpopulate quickly, leading to starvation and disease if they're NOT culled.

Besides, they are VERY tasty.

Trust me, I'm very well aware of how overpopulated they are. In the winter I can't go more than 30 mph on certain roads because they'll jump out at me, and hitting a deer in a Miata would be a very, very bad thing.

I suppose I should do the Australian thing and encourage our stereotype: "Emu, Kangaroo and Croc! CRICKEY! GIMME A Fosters aswell! Throw a few shrimp on the barbie!"

What the hell do people mean by shrimp? over here, shrimp are freshwater prawns that rarely grown >5cm... pain in the arse to eat. I have never heard any Australian seriously say shrimp on the barbie

Yum Yum.

I'm having trouble finding a Chinese place that delivers after midnight. I don't want to have to go foraging through my fridge and end up eating a mustard sandwich.

And Lapse an Australian response would be lamb, lamp chops could be considered our national dish.

Rice and soy sauce works well in these times :)

But not stereotypical enough! Plus, we are the only country that eats our coat of arms, I say live it up!

Yeah, after midnight most restaurants don't deliver. They should, stomachs don't respect hours!

True, true the British could learn a thing all two from us. I say they start eating lions.

I like horse meat, both in the stew (if you're in Verona, go for pastisada de caval and in the steak versions.

It's usually served as "sashimi" here. But the best I've ever tasted was dried
horse meat - think real beef jerky with a lot more flovor.

And I'll have to try those one of these days...

Donkey is even better (stewed in milk).

Sounds yummy.

As for snake and gators, I never tried, and they don't appeal very much to me - you know, reptilians, yuck. Frogs are good, though, so I wonder a bit about snakes.

Frog's good too. And finding the amphibians yummy but not the reptiles is humerous. ;) (What's a reptile but a variant fowl...)

Hotdog, a Dog that's Hot?

Hehe. I teach EFL here in Japan, and just last week one of my kids came up with that question, but seriously... :D

What about snakes, cats, kangaroo, alligator, bear, monkey, etc?

Why isn't there "others" on that list?

Indeed.

any cute little fluffy animal sounds good to me.
