World Bear Project.

A friend recently sent me this link of what seems to be a charity organisation/project in the works. The text from the website goes as such:

The World Bear Project is still in its development stage, but we plan to have a full website up in a month or two. At that time we will also begin our mission to unite children all over the world!

About the Project

Founded in 2008, the World Bear program began with a mother's love and ends with you today. It began with a young boy in a poverty-stricken section of South Africa, loved nothing more than his stuffed toy, a simple teddy bear. He also had a passion for learning about new places and would stare at pictures of different lands for hours.

Unfortunately, the boy was stricken with ALS at a young age and is already bedridden. His mother sent his stuffed bear to relatives in the Netherlands so he could see his bear in pictures in new and wonderful places. Unfortunately and accidentally, the bear was lost in the mail and never reached its destination.

After hearing the story from his mother, we became passionate about spreading our new found friend's story to everyone, and using his mother's idea to let her child see the world outside his room, and make many new friends.

So we ask you, please accept this large cutout of the boy's bear and let your children take a picture with the bear. Anyone and anywhere is great, we just want more pictures of more friends for our friend.

Please aid our cause in brightening the future of this little boy, and bringing the world closer to him, and closer together! There is nothing World Bear can't accomplish!

Seems like an innocent cause, right? Until you see the banner, which features...

Just kidding, I'm not embarrassed at all to be ignorant of this segment of, uh, "Internet culture."

And when thousands of parents take pictures of their children with an icon of pedophilia how do you think they will feel?

As funny as this all is, I believe that link is against the rules. You might want to edit it out.

Yes, I did lock this thread. And then unlocked it. And then thought about locking it again, because I can't see it going anywhere except one-liners and trolling.

I'd like to be proven wrong. Let's see, eh?

I am quite certain that that website is a mere joke. It has been around since the 5th of june - if legit it would have had more content by now as well as less pedophile bears (after all - the nice people of the internet would warn them. Right ?).

Yeah, that's why I left the thread open; its warning's worthwhile.

Can't find a reference on snopes.com. Damn /b/, except when they're chasing Scientologists.

lets turn this thread in the direction of how internet culture interacts with non internet culture.

thus far it seems the internet types love to make fun of, antagonized, or otherwise make themselves seem more important and smarter then the non connected society.

does this thread have pedobear's seal of approval?

(ps: the advertisers ARE out of their minds. i just saw an ad for vermont teddybears appear in THIS thread. it just keeps getting better)

Lol, the banner ad at the top of the page on this thread is "VermontTeddyBear.com"

And yes, I must say, whoever's idea this was has a bit of a creepy (but still hilarious) sense of humor

Because /b/ is a horrible place. Don't want anyone to get upset when they stray on a link and end up looking at porn spam or worse. Plus we certainly don't want this place showing up in their logs as a referer. I shudder to think.

Fair enough. That makes sense.

VermontTeddyBear ad makes sense though. The ad server probably picked up that this thread mentiones teddy bears.
Besides, dispite any warnings from any internet types, non-internet types are likely to have come in here thinking all sorts of innocent things about teddy bears. Which makes this a good place to advertise the more innocent teddy bears =)

Isn't Ardchoille a cute mod? She uses a special banhammer. I got a pic:

Really, she's getting my vote for the best mod ever in General. Iron fist covered in a silk and soft cotton glove.

That poor bear, I think it's about time someone tried to rehabilitate the poor abused creature.

And yeah, the page is broken now.

Is looking at porn spam that much worse than reading some of the crap that fills up here from certain posters? Can't imagine it's any worse than the explanation of what "pegging" is.

But seeing is believing. To follow an explanation, you have to want it.

One liners and trolling, for sure. Lock it.

BTW, I agree with Aelosia. You mod so good, I'm temped to break a rule just to hear you say something clever.
