iPhone: Is it really that awesome?

Well, I was considering getting an iPhone, but after hearing what some people have said, I am second guessing it. Is the iPhone as good as it has been put up to be? I would like to hear any opinions in this.

It's friggin expensive...

It does seem pretty cool. One of my cousins has one and my girlfriend's sister has one. The internet is useful on it, we've used it for directions a few times going to shows in Chicago.

I just personally still think its too expensive.

It's friggin expensive...I know that, but I have an upgrade and it would only be $199. I'm wondering if it would be worth it though. I was interested in the Touch, but i will need a phone. It was only logical. Although, some people are just telling me it would be a waste and that they're not as good as everyone says.

I am on my third one. First two suffered fates such as dropping on ground and damaging screen internally and the drop in a water puddle. Both times Apple took them back and replaced free of charge. Other than that I love mine. Wife likes hers too.

But can you use it as a vibrator?

I suppose if one kept calling themselves. It vibrates fairly well in my opinion. However it is not shaped to most liking I would imagine. :p

Tried out my roommate's iPhone. I hate the keyboard. Really, I hate the responsiveness. Blackberry Storm had better improve on this, otherwise I'm stopping any consideration of Verizon and going straight to T-Mobile and their Google phone.

I own the iPod Touch (1G), not the iPhone so I can't really comment on the whole phone portion of things. It does what it is advertised to do. Many people have complained about applications and programs crashing on theirs (both iPod and iPhone), I've yet to experience that but take it into consideration. As slick as the touch screen is, I do miss the click wheels of my last iPods. And although you won't have to worry about this on the iPhone or the new Touch, the lack of an external volume control (something to skip songs would be nice too) has me missing my older iPods as well. Having to turn the (battery draining) screen back on to change songs or volume gets old, especially if the device is password protected. As well storage is meager on both devices considering the capabilities they possess as media players. But that small storage happens to be solid state as opposed to hard drive eliminating any worries on hard drive failure.

I bought my Touch for two purposes, one was to replace my 4G iPod Photo I broke the year earlier (I broke, not it fell on the ground and strangely stopped working) and to act as a stop gap between bringing my laptop to Europe with me or waiting in line to use a computer at a hostel. The Touch relies on WiFi to connect to the internet and I managed to snag unprotected hotspots all over the place. McDonalds in France was particularly awesome, it was provided and free! The iPhone of course can connect wherever you have a cell signal, but then that just adds to the bill at the end of the month.

Over all I'm happy with the iPod Touch, but if I had my way Apple would put something out there in between the Nano and the Classic with a 64GB flash drive and the good 'ol reliable click wheel.

And I hate cell phones... so if they stuck a phone on it, I wouldn't buy it.

I thought most phones could.

Though, probably not as well as purpose-built devices. But I suppose maybe more kinky in a way.

The IPhone is a crippled smartphone. It however hides this status of being crippled by looking shiney, having a nice userinterface and being bloody expensive.

I have three devices which in total perform all the functions that an iPhone does. For me, spending a substantial sum of money to integrate them all into one machine isn't worth it for the minute amount of extra space in my bag. So I tend to see it as rather pointless. Iphone? More like WHYphone, amirite?

I would advise anyone thinking of an iPhone to look at the HTC Touch Diamond. I have never been happier with a smart phone. It's got 4GB internal memory, which handles enough music and photos for my daily use. I've also downloaded a wicked SatNav application (full functionality) and 2 email accounts (who really needs more?).
The touch interface is good, and access to facebook youtube etc are easily set up and quickly accessed. For the more geeky, the MS operating system gives my the usual office suite but needs the stylus to use easily

Oh yes, I hear they break really easily, but if Apple will replace them for free, that makes things a lot better.

The iphone just became the #1 selling handset in the USA, passing the Razr. The free market has spoken on the issue, loud and clear.

That does not necessarily make the IPhone 'the best'. It would do if people acted rationally, making a comprehensive assessment of the functions of the device and the asking price, and then after evaluating all the alternatives deciding which device best fit their needs. But hype, fashion etc no doubt come into play substantially here. The machine itself is rather expensive for what you get. I'd say that all this proves is that it is the best advertised and hyped device.

I advise to look at the whole HTC offer. Strange enough as it may seem people with an iPhone usually stop me to ask me what is the neat phone I'm using and where did I buy it.

Nice review! What are his and your specific gripes? In other words, what makes it a piece of rubbish?

Looks like all tools -- a trade-off in features. It it's got well-supported features that you like, it's great. If you need stereo bluetooth in your headset, you're out of luck.

I've worked hard to find a phone that is just a phone and it's difficult.

$75 per month USD isn't worth it to me, either. Yeah, it's cool and can do cool things, but I want a phone that will always be a good phone.

Out of all the features it has, the Microsoft Exchange feature to update contacts is is the one that would be nice to have on my phone, but it's not $75 per month nice.

It's pretty good. Light, fun apps, good phone, flexible interface.

The most annoying thing I find is that Safari doesn't have decent flash enabled, and the DRM isn't compatible with the BBC, so I can't watch half the stuff I would want to on it! Why bother advertising it as a high-speed internet phone then cripple the browser?!

It's the F-series, which I think is a bullshit way to rank the truck, because there are so many variations of it and the only reason it tops out every year is because of fleet sales. I think to call the F-series that becomes the front end to a box van or tow truck the same truck as the F-150 Lightening is disingenuous.
