The Cold War...

And the Fussing err... Cold War begins. This time it's called the Cold War of exaggerations. The Atlantian Islands and The Economist took up the lead broadcasting Russia moving it's conventional Iskander missiles internally, and only mentioning Obama for five minutes in a fifty minute speech as a threat to the United States. Not to be outdone Ferrous Oxide made a post claiming that Obama's "rash" actions in placing 10 nuke-shooters are actually a threat to Russia's nuclear arsenal. What will they think of next? Stay tuned.

Post other rediculuous Cold War claims here. It's da thread for them!

The most outrageous claim is that Russia has the finances to achieve anywhere near conventional military parity with the US, let alone do anything more than maintain its existing nuclear arsenal, all of which is basically Cold War leftovers from the USSR.

Not entirely true. Although the Russian Navy cannot compete with the US Navy in offensive capabilities, Russia can develop newer nukes if they scrap older nukes. They do have a few very nice newer nukes...

Ignore the secret part - it was all over the news, so not really secret.

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a "nice" nuke.

And what is the point of researching new nukes when you can already obliterate a city the size of New York?

Bragging rights? As long as they don't actually increase their stockpile, I'm ok with it, i.e. decomission a nuke and build another one, is ok; just building more nukes is not.

Poor Russia, being falsely accused by a British newspaper. They're just taking their missiles for a little spin, not deliberately putting them within striking distance of Poland and the Czech Republic. Except for part about how Medvedev said the missiles might be used to "neutralize" an ABM system in Europe.

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a "nice" nuke.Oh sure, it has state-of the art AI. When you launch it at a country, it first stops by for a visit to drink a cup of tea, and explain to you that you might want to run away very quickly, because it's oh so dreadfully sorry it will have to explode all over your country any minute now, but there's really nothing it can do about it. Really quite nice, but also sad; it doesn't want to explode, you see.

So you can build a nuke that can obliterate a city the size of New York without getting shot down.

That would be the missile or delivery vehicle, not the warhead itself.

Yes, that's what we wanted you to think!

Also, I'd imagine they'd like to build smaller warheads with larger yields. Smaller warhead = smaller missile = harder to hit and detect.
