This past Sunday one of the members of the congregation of a Church I attend started a Bible Study by asking if we thought God sometimes sends us bad leaders in purpose. Instantly warning bells went off in my head, because the man is devoutly Republican and his views are often colored because of it, and given that Obama had just won the election it didn't take a genius to figure it out. The man went on to speak about how in the book of Revelations it mentions a great leader rising out of the Middle East, preaching change, unity and hope, everyone will love him, ect. But the punchline is, this guy's actually the Antichrist, which, for those of you who don't know, = Bad.

He expressly said that he did not think Barack Obama is the Antichrist, but that statement ran directly contrary to everything else he said, from the Bible and his own theology, that supports it (in his mind). Now, there's some holes there, and by holes, I mean endless pits, as Obama did not come from the Middle East, virtually every leader who has ever run for anything preached "change, hope and unity", and that his theory is so absurd that I had to leave before either bursting out laughing or getting into an argument with him. Now, I'd just like to say I support Obama, and am a Democrat, but in following both his and John McCain's campaigns for the Presidency I have never heard of this accusation. So what do you think about this? Can you provide me with other sources that claim Obama is the Antichrist? Has anyone else heard similar from your own religious friends/families/leaders?

I heard much the same thing via my mother-in-law's church. She's a Southern Baptist, but I don;t know if it was a local phenomenon, or a Southern Baptist trend.

I've done the math, as I've stated in another thread. 666x3 (Three being the trinity, we all know 666)=1998. Therefore, the antichrist must be born in 1998.:D

On a more serious note, I had a similar experience, minus me supporting Obama. I politely excused myself to the bathroom to cool off, and when I came back out, he was talking about something else. The rest of the time went fairly smoothly.

Obama is not the anti-Christ, he is a walk-in soul who assisted another tired soul (then occupying the body we now see as his) to return to the other side.

He then took charge of that physical body in order to help himself and us achieve our maximum potential. Thus, he will be on hand when the axis of the earth shifts on December 20 - 22, 2012.

Ok, now that I've gotten my stance out, I'll move onto the unbiased part. I'll discuss the symbolism below. The Book of Revelation and the Bible Code say that a man will go into Europe from the Middle East wearing a Blue Turban. There, he will preach change, unity, love, and everything good. However, as his followers grow, the power will corrupt him. During this time, he'll change from a benevolent to a malevolent person. Then, he will be killed which will result in 26 years of bloodshed and carnage.

That is an over simplistication of the entire prophecy and story. Now, the symbolism and meanings; all of which are just a few of the conclusions.
"Blue Turban"- Possibly symbolizing the Democratic Party, as the color often attributed to them is blue. Perhaps, in a more literal sense, it could be a "blue" army from Africa. Or more simplistically, a muslin wearing a blue turban.

"He will preach change, unity, love, and everything good"- Not really any interpretations here. Almost anything goes.

"26 years of bloodshed and carnage"- World War 3? Genocide the likes of which we've never seen? World Facism? Again, anything goes.

I hope he's the Anti-Christ. The sooner he and his terrorist friends are out of office, the better. If he turns out to be the Anti-Christ, all the more reason to remove him.

Except that your claims about what is or is not in the "spirit" of the antichrist is not included in the descriptions of the signs and attributes of the antichrist delineated in your own Bible. Revelation describes the antichrist. If it also lists the things a person had to do for you to know they are acting in the spirit of the antichrist, then you should post a link, because as far as I know the Bible says nothing at all on that score. I stand by my original argument that you just made all this up. I think you just don't like that a moderately liberal person got into the White House, and you're just picking items off your religious-rightwing talking points list to use to try to slap him with some kind magic "he's a bad guy" label.

Muslin is cloth. Rather nice cloth, actually, breathes well and is good for summer garb. it's not even about recalculating. The world will look like it is going to hell because they believe it will. Every minor tribulation will be intensely magnified, every accomplishment dismissed. They believe that Obama will wreck the world and will reinforce that belief in everything they see.

We can see it all over the conservative blogs. The stock market is a volatile yo-yo for a month, and, continuing that volitility, drops several points in the days following Obama's election. To the normal person, it's just another volatile day in a volatile economy. For the right wing raving loons, just more proof that Obama spells doom.
