Yes, some of you claim that they're a serious party, but given their presidential candidates there's no other possibility!

2008: Guy so old he could drop dead any day (and an idiot for the VP)
2004: Monkey
2000: Monkey
1996: Viagra spokesperson
1992: Old confused guy (and an idiot for the VP)
1988: Old confused guy (and an idiot for the VP)
1984: Guy so old he could drop dead any day (and an old confused guy for the VP)
1980: Guy so old he could drop dead any day (and an old confused guy for the VP)

Think Palin was the number one joke this year. She thought Africa was a country!

That woman was one step forward and 10 steps back for feminism.

An excellent representative of a land shrouded in glaciers.

And before anyone tells me I'm discriminating against Alaskans because it's cold, I'm Canadian and have had to sit through innumerable igloo jokes anyway.

Sure the woman's family had thought/wanted Alaska to be independent from America.

Which is why the votes were so close?

The republicans didn't even want W Bush they wanted Jeb who unfortunately couldn't run for presidency because he lost his senate seat to a democrat...

The only election that was close was 2000, and the Supreme Court made its decision and was implemented accordingly.

Recount after recount never gave Gore Florida, and no matter how much people want to cling to that now ancient political history, Bush won and he won in accordance with the law. If people had a case to make, they should have made it back then because by now the entire issue is irrelevant.

Gore won the popular vote. And the popular vote in 2004 was considerably closer than this year.

But yeah, Gore and Kerry were both pretty lousy candidates.

Gore and Kerry prove that it's not enough to have a good message, you got to be able to package the message so it'll sell well to the public.

Let us not forget that in 1992 & 1996, the Democrats needed the help of Ross Perot to win (don't believe me - do the sums for yourself). Indeed, the last election prior to this one which the Democrats won outright (that is, without the help of spoilers) was in 1976.

I think that was totally stupid how the Republicans endorsed John McCain for being a war hero when he didn't do anything besides crashing a few jets and getting captured when they poked fun at John Kerry's war experience (They made fun of the coincidence on the Daily Show).

Personally, I don't think war experience qualifies people to be president.

* back on topic.

Dems lose to Republicans because lots of Dems are less motivated to vote and because, I think, that the majority of Americans lack the intelligence to make a thoughtful political decision, especially since my own mom (bless her heart) supported Obama simply for the fact that his mom was a single mom.

I know a lot of relatives and people in high school that say, "Like OMG! Senator X will, like, totally ruin the country if he gets into office!"

And then when I ask them a political question they get all defensive and dodge around it.

Well presidential elections tend to favor the republicans because smaller agricultural states get more votes.
The republicans while smaller (registered voters about half that of democrats) Have a much higher voter turn out.
And are less easily fragmented. Voting blocks with in the democratic party such as Union workers, college students, Jewish people, African Americans while holding similar do hold views different enough on how the nation and the democratic party should be ran.
Selecting one National candidate who represents one or two groups often Alienates the other groups.

Likewise The democrats tend to win congress because Candidates run that fit what the local democrats want so a popular local congress man can pull people out at the local level. And they have a larger base then the republicans.

I think a lot of what hurt Kerry was he tried to play up his military career and 3 purple hearts. But He had thrown back his medals and denounced his military service. You don't denounce something when it benefits you then later point to it with pride when it benefits you.
Kerry was a flip flop.

And Id prefer a president with military experience of some form, as a veteran myself..

They didn't make fun of Kerry because of his war experience. They made fun because he came back and lied about what happened over there and became a war protester. Then he said I fought for our county. Just another way that Kerry waffled on somthing!

its influence was not felt in the election. Might have made Obama appear soft on immigration and endangered union voters (who are anti immigration)

I have read the fine print and I still do not approve this message.

General already has several post-US-election comment threads. The OP could have fitted in any of these. The title encourages gloating from those who don't read the fine print. The thread itself is staggering between actual discussion of an unstated topic and spam.

It may be labelled satire, but Jonathan Swift need not fear the competition.
