Cyber wedgies?

I always thought the Meier case was retarded anyways.
And a kid who is still worried about being bullied at school is too young to need a cell phone.

I wonder if it will ever occur to some people that rather than attempt to legislate away any and all perceived 'triggers' that can cause emotionally fragile teens to commit suicide, that perhaps it might be more productive and less futile to discover the cause and solution to emotionally fragile teens. Like maybe the parents.

Both my parents are teachers. Their combined 50+ years of experience has shown it is never the parents fault. Ever. Never ever. It can be anything, like other students, teachers themselves, the blue sky and the green grass. But it is never the parents. Parents are perfect, like their children. ;)

Ah, satire.

Why? -- to both points.
Kids can be worried about being bullied until public school is over. That makes them 17 or 18. Too young? I can't agree.

Um... I'm emotionally and mentally unstable at times. People cyberbully me all the time. I cyberbully other people all the time. People who can't learn to take at hit and would willingly take themselves out of the gene pool might be a new form of evolution in a society where evolution ceases to function due to social programs and the idea of social equality.
If you want to solve cyberbullying, just program a bunch of bots that would play games, chat, and make facebooks, whatever, so that "cyberbullies" can still continue channeling their anger through another "person".
Cyberbullying...now that's a load of bullshit if I've ever heard of one. Hey dumbasses, don't give out your personal information and just block those "bullies", solving your problem once and for all. Or, even better, go to the rumored respite from the internet known as "outside"...there might be real bullies out there, but in that case you can just find somebody you know to kick their asses.

Amazing idea! We can solve the problem of cyber-bullying and accelerate Turing test research with one fell swoop! Definitely up there with SETI@home. :)

from the OP article:
Programs like CyberPatrol and Spector allow parents to keep tabs on everything kids do on MySpace and Facebook, and keep screen snapshots and a record of what kids write in chat and instant messages.
Using these programs, parents can also block Web sites and downloads of movies, music or images.
yay for taking away all personal freedoms and privacy in the name of safety!
That's going to really help their kid's self-esteem: knowing there is nothing they can do or say online that their parents can't control. Because the last thing a teenager needs is a bit of privacy.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Yeah that's right don't tell anyone who you are even if they live next door to you hide your address so they won't know where they live.
Cyberbullying can include a lot of different things including spreading lies around everybody via the internet. Perhaps photo shopping a picture so it looks like some kid went to school without any pants on or something. Which then leaves the kid open to bullying. Perhaps hacking into a kids account (without the kid giving out passwords) and then posting comments to other friends such as "You're a skank and I hate you" Or even writing in the status "I jerk off to John McCain".
Yeah but hey that sort of shit never goes on now does it? And it will always be people they don't know away from the computer, it will never be someone they know elsewhere.
The amount of people here who seem to dismiss it mustn't have kids and if they do I feel sorry for those kids whose parents will just tell them to "get over it". This is a problem and just because you guys never experienced when growing up doesn't mean kids aren't experiencing it now.

Well... I'm just trying to say there's no plausible way to get rid of cyberbullying completely except by getting a bunch of Facebook Fascists or Myspace Nazis or the Parent Police to watch everything people do. Seriously, don't buy into this crap that people are "emotionally fragile". People call me "mentally unstable" and "emotionally fragile" and I don't buy that either.
I think that there's a block button and if people want to stop being depressed, they can press it. And if they don't stop. Then hit them back. HARDER!
