PS3 games

I finally broke down on Friday and bought myself a PS3. I was in need of some serious retail therapy as it was the 1st anniversary of my father's death and indulging myself seemed a good idea.

So now I need some games for it. Does anyone out there with a PS3 (or access to one) got any strong recommendations? both for and against certain games.

Many thanks!

Anyone played 'Little Big Planet'? That's a game that looks like it has good potential.

Resistance. Both 1 and 2.

The Metal Gear games are also always a good bet.

I also agree with KoL (a rare event so it must be true :p)

But on top of the resistence I would also say the Blazing angels games are good though number one is better than number 2.

FIFA09 is good as is CoD4, MXvsATV is a good game too. GTAIV is a good game also.

I haven't played Little Big Planet though I hear it is a good game and from what I have been told similar to Lemmings only better.

Resistance - I played that at a mate's place last year and liked it a lot. I think I will accept KoL and Blou's advice (extremely rare those two finding something to agree on!) and go for Resistance II. I assume you don't need I to play II?

I just read that they've delayed LBP due to some problem with one of the songs. It had some Koran in it, which upset some Muslims, so Sony has recalled them all and will re-release it later this month with that specific song omitted.

Unless you really care about story line, no I doubt you will.

Also, Fallout 3 is most excellent. Thats for all systems, but still is worth mentioning.

Auctually KoL not to ruin it for me (as I am yet to buy it) but considering the story line had the Chimera coming from Russia and spreading through Europe and then into the UK. And considering in the first one they were defeated in the UK how the hell did they get into the US?

I was a bit disappointed when I heard that I was hoping that the next game would be moving into Europe.

That's a shame to hear about the song, was that one of the songs on the 'jukebox' as so many PS3 games have or was it one incorporated into the game?

I figured one wouldn't need to, but no harm asking. Story line was pretty easy to follow. Aliens invade, you kick their ass. Not much more to it than that, was there?

Already got Fallout III. Came with the machine. Taking a bit to get into, but liking it a lot.

Anyone played Valkyria Chronicles? It looks interesting. I like the graphics, but what of the gameplay?

Actually one game not to get PotatoHeads is Lair. While it is a game that fully utilizes the six way motion control game and indeed that is all you use pretty much. It seems like a development game where an alright story line was put in place with some alright graphics just to sell it with the 6 way motion control.

I wouldn't say buy it and wait till another game that utilises the feature and has had some more time to develop be released.

Lucky you. I got Spiderman 3 on blueray.

Id rather have a good game than a shitty DVD.

I've already been warned off that game by others, but thanks for reminding me!

I liked Lair, but I knew from the beginning it wasn't going to be anything great. I just had a lot of fun charging my dragon through massed formations of enemy soldiers and hijacking other people's dragons...

Yeah the concept of the game was alright and I didn't mind the fact flying dragons but it did lack a few things and really did seem to be a game that was just based around the six way axis control feature and quickly pushed through.

One which uses some more time in the development stage should be better.

Hell yeah I had to tell my friend off for actually wasting his money on it. He returned it 3 days after he brought it. Do not buy Haze

If you like SRPGs/JRPGs, you should check out Valkyria Chronicles. You can already get it at reduced prices in some places and more price cuts may occur in not too long as it seems this game is bombing pretty hard, which is unfortunate since this is a really good game.

Besides that, I suggest going to places like metacritic.com and check out the top list of highest scoring PS3 games. Read some reviews on each game and you'll probably find something you would like.

I'm playing Resistance I right now (I'm a converted 360 player so I'm running behind), I also have Far Cry 2 but I haven't been able to get into that yet.

Also, Metal Gear Solid 4 is epic.

However, I'm kinda treading water until next year's slate of awesome stuff comes out (Alpha Protcol, inFamous, and Prototype).

Metal Gear 4 is the best purchase you can make for your PS3. Even if you aren't into the steal-action single play style, Metal Gear online is possibly the best first person shooter online today. Hours and hours of fun to be had there.

Resistance is mediocre. Sorry, but it's true.

Also, I want mirrors edge so bad it hurts.

Ratchet & Clank. I'm also enjoying Assassin's Creed, though a heavy workload (and having plenty more games to play) means I'm taking my time with it.

Of course, if you don't already have it for another system... Rock Band 2. I'm completely addicted.

I stopped playing on most consoles after I got my PC and put it online. Of course, I do have a Nintendo Wii I still occasionally mess around with. :D

The scary thing is that I'll probably be getting a PS3 (or PS4, depending on how like Sony takes to realzie that price gouging is an idiotic idea) when the price is $200 and not $600.

Games I'll be getting with it include Disagaea 3, FFXIII, and LittleBigPlanet.

There won't be a PS4 for at least six years. Sony has said that the PS3 will have a ten year life cycle.

I'm sure they are planning on a 10 year life span, just like they did with the PS2. Note that they are still making and selling PS2s, and that this didn't stop them from bringing out a PS3.

My prediction is a PS4 in 2012, possibly a year earlier if they really want to launch in the same time frame as the next Xbox. But this will all depend on what Microsoft and possibly Nintendo does.

They *planned* it to be a ten-year cycle, but now that they realize price-gouging upsets people and they've gone from first to third, the PS4'll likely appear around the same time as the Wii2 and the X720.

EDIT: It's like how Microsoft extended XP support and is quietly brushing Vista under the carpet!

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is worth checking out, if you're into platforming/third person shooters.

Bioshock, if you've somehow managed to miss it on every other platform.

Plus, you can turn off vita-chambers and actually make it a fun game. Yay!

The PS3's high price is due to the built in Blu-Ray player and the complexity of the Cell Processor. If the 360 had it's HD-DVD player built in it would have cost almost as much as the PS3.

And considering that Blu-ray players (at least here) cost around $1000 each then getting the PS3 means you get the Blu-ray player (which won the latest battle of the format wars) as well as a good games console.

But seriously, MGS4 and the Resistance games are pretty good

I would suggest first of all get Oblivion. I have put over 150 hours into it and still am discovering new things. Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4, and Grand Theft Auto 4 are also really great buys.
