I'm saddened. I loved Jurassic Park and Next. The world has lost a great author... ='(
Oh my god don't do that. I thought Ben Browder had died.

Wow. That's taking shock about the election to a whole new level.
Just add it too my list of shitty things to happen today.I should be feeling good about the presidency but for some reason it seems like the world has conspired to make it one hell of a bad day.

I know it depresses me. He was one of my favorite authors, and very prolific. Now I wont be able to read any more of his work.

Shit, I liked reading his books.
The world of literature has lost another great author. :(
The news caught me suprise, I read Jurassic Park when I nine, it was the first real adult book that I read, and have since went on to read most of his works. I However bought his last book but have not got around to reading, perhaps now I should get around to it.

Don't worry people Steven Spielberg will write scripts for the nonexistent sequels to his books. sort of like Indiana Jones and the crystal school thing.

It is sad that someone has died, as it always is.
I, however, am glad we'll get no more books from that hack of a writer.
Strange, same year ER ends.
Yeah, if ER had only been on the air a bit longer, they could have saved him.
...okay, I admit that was kinda tasteless.

I don't know about "great", but he was certainly prolific and a master of his largely self-created genre. I really liked The Andromeda Strain and more recently Airframe and Prey. You knew what you were getting with Michael Crichton -- he was the high-end fast-food of science-fiction. He was no Asimov, but he was an important figure in the genre, and he will be missed.
One of my all-time favorites was The Andromeda Strain and I really liked Prey, State of Fear and Next. The world has lost a good doctor and truly great writer and he will be missed.
I just hope the prices on his other books haven't already gone up since his demise, there are still quite a few I never read.

Dead at 66 - a bit young but he gained fame from his books (and royalties from those dinosaur chasing scary films.)
I hope they have cloned him and lrt him roam free on that special island.......

Yeah, and it was terrible how he used to hold people at gunpoint until they'd finished reading his novels.
His books were great "fluff" reading for airplane trips....
Except for Airframe...

I wouldn't call him a hack...Sphere remains one of my favorite books of all time, but he did have some annoying trends in his writing, particularly ensuring that one supporting character is entirely ignorant of the main scientific subject matter of the book (most notably in Airframe and State of Fear), enabling the principle protagonist to go off on long explanations that could have been more smoothly introduced by simply assuming the reader had a little reading comprehension.
He did the same thing when co-writing the script for Twister.
Still, while not a Great Author...he was certainly a Great Storyteller, and he will be missed.
