Rockhalla, Part Duex

I hope some people remember last year's Rockhalla thread, but for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about...

Rockhalla the legendary place from mythology where the loud and proud live on in eternal jam-session glory! Lorded over by Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston (Esquire) the denizens of this immortal concert hall live forever in a rock filled drug induced haze; but alas, who is worthy of such a privilege?

This is the place where you can nominate, discuss, and argue the greatest rock and roll bands of all time! But they don't just have to be rock and roll, blues, jazz, soul, and any type of music that had a direct affect on rock and roll is also acceptable. There are a few rules here to keep things moving...

Da Rules
1. You must post the band and why you believe they deserve to go to Rockhalla, honestly, please give a reason!
2. Nominate one band at a time, I'll update the list when I think a band has enough Awesome Points to go on, criticism (with valid reasons) is allowed of other people's choices if you abide by rule #3.
3. No Flaming, its just polite not too.
4. Try to stick to bands with at least 10 years of existence to show they have staying power. (but this rule is flexible)
5. I made Awesome Points up...
6. There is no rule number 6! I just had to make a Python reference.

We didn't accomplish much last time NSG! Lets get something epic here :)

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Motorhead. More specifically, the man behind it all Lemmy. Although regarded as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, he has covered a huge amount of territory and genres since getting fired from Hawkwind. Everything from punk to the blues to just plain rock has been touched or influenced by Lemmy and Motorhead.

Rush. Decades of success, a combination of musical aptitude, creativity, and depth of subject matter. International appeal, to the point of being titled Canada's Musical Ambassadors. Influential to countless modern music groups.

I give my backing to Motorhead, Rush, and Led Zeppelin.

Also, I'd like to nominate AC/DC.

Amazingly awesome guitar riffs: definite check
Great ballads that reflect an eternity of rock as the ultimate form of paradise: check.

Rush!

They're an awesome band.
They made Tom Sawyer, who has a mean, mean stride.
Their Bassist is actually good at playing the Bass Guitar! *heart attack*
They're still playing after over thirty years, and everyone still loves them*

Seconded, Nirvana helped kill the abomination known as hair metal and thus should honored for all time.

I support Led Zeppelin, Rush, AC/DC, and Nirvana and finally have one of my own...

Weezer! Their brand of alternative (or punk, or Indie, or whatever you feel like calling them) is catchy and original. They have easily become favorites of all kinds of people both old and young.

Though not the biggest fan of them I have to nominate Oasis. Some of their albums have been hit and miss but every album has had a least one or two tracks that just become stadium fillers, which they are now. Any band that can sell out a national tour, nearly half a million tickets, in under an hour, are just immense. Highlights of their career include:

Champagne Supernova
Don't Look Back In Anger
Live Forever
Morning Glory
Wonderwall

I would have to say they deserve a place in Rockhalla.

Staying Power: check
Amazingly awesome guitar riffs: definite check
Great ballads that reflect an eternity of rock as the ultimate form of paradise: check.
Writing the same damn song 200 times: check.
Having drumming so basic and mediocre, even a man with only one arm could do it: check.
Sexually and emotionally retarded lyrics: check.

Alright, Led Zeppelin needs in. My nominee is already in, so now I am going to ask that Led Zeppelin be inducted. They've got the staying songs, the name recognition, and great guitar riffs.

I think enough people have asked for it, so the gates of Rockhalla will now open to welcome Led Zeppelin to the bosom of the most rockin' place since Woodstock.

I realize that The Who is an amazing band, but nobody has actually provided a reason! What have they accomplished that makes them stand far above the rest of the rabble? What singificant contributions have they made to change the face of Rock music? C'mon people please! The God's of Rockhalla need more than just the band's following or any band who ever scored a top 40 hit would be there.

Worse than that. He's Adult Contemporary. *shudder*You're silly. Motorhead didn't begin that much later than Queen did.
People aren't nominating the best '60s and '70s bands for me to support, other than some of the ones that already had support.

AC/DC

1. They got as their lead guitarist a 5' 2", 53 year old guy who dresses up as a schoolboy and runs around on stage, only pausing to moon people.

2. They have the record for best-selling album by a band (Back in Black). Their new album, Black Ice, sold over 1 million copies in the United States in 2 weeks, putting them at #1 on the Billboard 200, and they are still getting new fans.

3. They made Back In Black, their biggest album, after their lead singer had just died. That's how good they are, they can comeback even better from an event that would usually sound the death knell for any other band.

Oh, reasons.

Reasons the Dead Kennedys should be in:

1) Influence.
2) The law. They were sued for obscenity for the cover art of one of their albums. Sometimes a way of showing how innovative something is is by measuring how upset people get with it. A lawsuit is a large amount of discomfort.
3) Refusal to compromise. No 'explicit lyrics' stickers on their albums.

Quadrophenia and Tommy for starters. Standardizing the power chord concept while refusing to make it just about being loud. Solidifying the middle ground between the Stones' rawness and the Zepplin/Floyd progressive vibe. Showing some range ("Baba O'Reilly" to "Squeeze Box") while never going soft. Rock gods, y'all.
