As the title states, which world cuisines do you enjoy?

I love Spanish cuisine, of course, with Italian coming 2nd., Mexican is 3rd. and Arab is 4th.

Of course, others I like are Japanese and Puerto Rican.

My sources say maybe

The origins of chicken tikka masala are disputed:

* A widely reported explanation of the origins of the dish is that it was conceived in Glasgow in the late 1960s, when a customer, who found the traditional chicken tikka too dry, asked for some gravy. The chef supposedly improvised a sauce from tomato soup, yogurt and spices.
* Many restaurants throughout the UK claim to have invented it. The recipe's age is also unproven, with claims ranging from the 1970s back to the 1950s
* At least one source has the dish originating in Delhi in 1947.
* Another theory is that it originated in British India to adapt local dishes to the British palate. A prototype may be Murgh Makhni (butter chicken), a dish from the Punjab region of India.

Italian is by far my favorite.

American... contrary to popular belief we do have American cuisine... Meat Loaf, Tuna Casserole, stuff like that; I hate to break it to the Italians but pizza is much more of an American food. And don't forget our bastardizations of other people foods...

Asian... but I can't eat a lot of the stronger flavored foods because they make me sick :(.

And Greek, but only when its actually Greek!

Good good. Will definitely make it easier over time!

Now, as for my favourites...

I love Thai and Chinese-but only the quality stuff, not so much the fastfood!
Good Kiwi tucker always goes down well too.
Some of the food from the Pacific Islands is beautiful!

Just a few from top of my mind.. Oh and yeah, Italian is great, pasta and pizza.

I'm not really familiar with Spanish cuisine, but I do enjoy tapas and red wine on a summer night.

I always recommend people try Spanish food by region. And since I´m from Asturias, I will recommend you try Fabada Asturiana (http://www.spain-recipes.com/fabada-asturiana.html) and Casadielles. There, a dish and a dessert.

Casadielles:

For the puff pastry:
500 g flour
250 cm3 water
20 g salt
2 eggs
300 g butter

For the filling:
200 g walnuts
200 g hazelnuts
300 g sugar
anisette to taste

Mix the flour with the salt, water, eggs and 100 grams of the butter, and make a very fine first dough.

Roll out with a rolling pin and cover with the remaining 200 grams of butter, evenly distributed. Fold and roll out a few times to make a puff pastry. Chill in the refrigerator.

Form a filling with the finely grounds walnuts and hazelnuts and the sugar. Mix it well with your hands and, little by little, dampen the mixture with the anisette until it is light and compact.

On a marble surface, stretch or roll the puff pastry, and cut it into pieces about 13 cm by 10 cm.

On each piece, place a spoonful of the filling and close the sides, previously moistened water or egg yolk. Press the edges gently with a fork.

Fry the casadielles in very hot oil and, after removing them from the oil, dredge them with sugar.

That sounds great; I love chorizo. Might try it this weekend.

Never really had the patience to make pastries, though.

As the title states, which world cuisines do you enjoy?

I love Spanish cuisine, of course, with Italian coming 2nd., Mexican is 3rd. and Arab is 4th.

Of course, others I like are Japanese and Puerto Rican.

Italian is very good. Some Spanish I like, but I also dislike some things I had in Spain quite strongly. Some German is to my tastes. I like a lot of Mexican food, and some Japanese food (but not actually sushi). I've had French food, but it was a bit fancy for me. My favorite French food is basically their version of the grilled cheese sandwich. I like a lot of traditional "American" food, which is mostly stuff taken from other nations and then warped. Though there are some yummy things that did originate in the USA. Like the peanut butter and jam sandwich, IIRC.

Don't think anyone's mentioned Vietnamese (try Pho Bang, although I've only seen it in NY). I absolutely despise American fast food. Italian is also a favorite. I have to ask though, do Italians really eat maggots with cheese?? Chinese and Japanese cuisines are givens, add some Thai to the mix. Oh, and Tex-Mex.

Not always, there's a Bristol without a new, about 15 miles from a Bath and 40 odd from a Somerset there, all of which without News on them, but also those are all places near where I live, so I'm convinced that people came from round here to settle there, seeing as Bristol is a port city. Even vindaloo made in India?

Vindaloo made in India is a Goan dish of joint Indian and Portuguese influence, made with pork preserved in red wine or red wine vinegar.

'Vindaloo' in the UK has become a semi-generic term for any very hot dish, regardless of the content; it also usually contains potatoes (possibly due to confusion over 'aloo' being the Hindi word for potato), which true Goan vindaloo doesn't.

As to the question in the OP....

In no particular order:

Szechuan [probably the second hottest cuisine on earth, behind only Bhutanese]
Macanese [get that Chinese / Portuguese fusion thing going]
Portuguese
Thai
Spanish
Cantonese [done right; most UK and US Chinese restaurants don't]
Jamaican

Major world cuisine that I should like but inexplicably don't:

Korean

And my least favourite cuisine?

Icelandic.

I lived in Iceland for a year in the 80s, and rancid shark meat, smoked sheep's head, pickled puffin and ram testicles really don't do it for me.

With all due respect to our wise and munificent mod, chicken tikka masala is not Indian food. It's a British-invented adaptation of Indian food; statistically, it's the single most popular restaurant dish in the UK. So British is it that the late Foreign Secretary Robin Cook claimed it was "Britain's true national dish".

A (possibly apocryphal) story has it that it was invented in Glasgow when a customer asked for some gravy because he thought the chicken was too dry. Legend has it that the chef improvised a sauce from tomato soup, yogurt and spices. Several British restaurants (and not just in Glasgow) claim to have invented it somewhere between the 1950s to 1970s. Even those who claim it really does come from India have it as a Raj-era adaptation of Punjabi butter chicken for the British palate.

So it's about as Indian as chop suey is Chinese.
