the life style i've always dreamed of
inspired by that stupid ad that was flashing me as i posted my previous reply to another thread.
the live style i've always dreamed of is that of a high tec hermet with his own 'bat cave' waaaay out in the boonies somewhere. "meeting new people" never had a damd thing to do with it. organizations of creative and interesting people are ok, but social just for the sake of social is a boring drag.
so anyway, how about the rest of us. is the focus of whatever the're trying to sell as wide of the mark with the rest of you as it is for me?
or more genearlly, what interesting uniqueness would other's like their "lifestyle", to be or have?

I've always wanted to own an orchard, out in the remote wilds, and spend my days raising apples and enjoying the scenery, maybe a bit of hunting on the side...

That was the ad I saw 99% of the time when I was on vacation in France. Very obnoxious.

I'm not British, but I must cut in with an obligatory "me three".

Not really. As Thomas Frank argues in The Conquest of Cool, the counterculture were essentially buying into an alternative lifestyle, one for which just as many obnoxious advertisers and promoters help merchants sell their wares. To whatever extent my ideal lifestyle would be "unique", I still think it would be sufficiently un-unique for it to pop in a few salespersons' brochures.
I want to get paid to do what I love doing...which is being involved in various social justice projects, and in particular community building with my own people, and aboriginal people in general. Thus I went into law.
Aside from that, I want to make enough money to support my daughters, and allow us to travel and enjoy life now, rather than when I retire. Of course, I need to get paid enough that I don't have to work 24/7, because travel and other enjoyable activities would be impossible then.
I'm not asking for much, and I'm well on my way to the lifestyle I've always dreamed of.

I want to live in a decadent Turkish-like palace, surrounded by a harem of sexy-looking young men who tend to my every whim and desire.
Alas, my chances of getting there are slim at best.

I want to be set for th rest of my life, in some place where it's safe, and there's a moderate amount of people who won't bother me. I also want a bunch of games and a top-of-the line computer, with a new batch of games every year, and a high-speed internet connection.
Technology FTW!

Mine would be kinda like yours, except it would be a mansion on a private Island. With a massive secret underground military bunker. And a Gundam.

I like the cottage idea. But only to spend summers there.
Sampling teas... at night, sitting in front of a fireplace, a blanket wrapped losely around me. I like that.:)

All I want is a nice flat in the centre of London where I'm a few minutes away from a couple of nice cinemas, cafes etc. However given the ridiculous state of regulation, precious few flats are available under the £100m price range so I have had to scale back my ambitions to the Camden area. I think all my life boils down to now is trying to encroach on central London like a footballer in a wall at a free kick.

I don't know why but a small town place in the Nevada desert sounds really nice right now (then again that only exists in the sims and its winter right now)
hell really I'd be happy with a good mortgage for a house and a simple 9-5 job *dreams*

Enough money so I can live off the interest. A reasonably sized house, not too big to manage. Top-of-the range computer and TV. Every so often I'd write short witty pieces for newspapers or journals. I'd also have the entire world at my mercy due to my ownership of a giant set of lasers in space, capable of totally vapourising anyone on Earth who questions my rule and my establishment of global social democracy.

believe it or not, i HAVE lived in small towns out in the middle of the nevada 'desert'. i.e. austen and pioche. the summer i spent as driller's helper on core and rotary mineral exploration drill rigs. best part was driving the water truck out to the creek and laying on top of it looking up at all those stars in the middle of the night. and then in the quiet, when the tank is full, and you turn off the pump, all the coyote's sing to you.
this was back in the very early 70s for an outfit called longyear drilling. mostly under contract to kennicot.
I want a place where the bars are open 24 hours and there are no cigarette taxes.
