As the title says...

A couple I found:

Shakira's - Whenever, Whereever (metal cover) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGgLOrobf34&NR=1)

Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend ( Death metal cover ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK0RCfki6Io)

A Perfect Failure - Katy Perry I Kissed A Girl - Metal Cover! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ3Z1a7TDKg)

Anybody else come across interesting cover versions?

She should have at least learned the words first.

Stevie Nicks covers I fell in love with: "Face The Promise" (Bob Seger) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abx1_R59cbw)

"Rock And Roll" (Led Zeppelin) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DktzJojvSIU)

"I Need To Know" (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mEWuf056dM). Here, she performs the song with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but she has often sung the song on her solo tours.

And a cover of a Stevie Nicks song that I absolutely adore: "Edge of Seventeen" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGRwUjM04Qc), played by the guy in this video.

Normally, I'm not a big fan of Stevie Nicks covering other artists, but she does a great job on the three songs she's covered above. She's done some other covers of late that I can't get into, but the rollicking songs she's done she kicks arse on.

Goodbye To Romance by Alex Skolnick is also one of my favourite covers albums. its the guitarist from Testament doing jazz trio covers of famous metal and rock songs.

oh and of all the No Quarter (led zep) covers i've found, this is probably my favourite... Invisigoth - No Quarter - Alcoholocaust. that, or the Exhumed version

I did a whole compilation album of cover versions once, just to silence people who reckon cover versions are no good. Here's a few of them:

Stiff Little Fingers - Johnny Was
Punk bank covering a Bob Marley track. Awesome.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA1WZI58nkM

Manic Street Preachers - Theme from MASH (Suicide is Painless)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-g0aBYVCgE

Johnny Cash - Hurt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go

Dread Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
It's a reggae version of Stairway to Heaven. It's gimmicky, but it works.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZn1evRYPKU

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Originally a Bob Dylan ballad, believe it or not.

Yes. Speaking of Apocalyptica*, their version of Hall of the Mountain King is well worth a listen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf2aIVKp1OY).

Amanda Palmer/The Dresden Dolls have done some really good covers as well, see, for instance, I Google You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZdfDljZR6s) (Amanda solo, covering Neil Gaiman**) and Ikarus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC3nI-0hWWk) (Amanda solo again, covering Jason Webley)***.

That's almost an oxymoron. Sure, there are some cover songs that manage to add something to the original song by reinterpreting it, but most just suck really, really hard. Especially the ironic variety, which are never good and seem to be the bread and butter of this thread.

I'm amazed. When I'm associating Shakira and the circumstance of "Wherever, Whenever" ... i'm not thinking of a whole lot of intelligible lyrics. Perhaps some invocation, but other than that, some hearty sounds.
