For those that don't know, Hell houses are a Christian conversion tactic of trying to use the idea a haunted houses to scare people into believing in Christianity.

Do you think they help or hurt the conversion effort of the groups that run them?

Personally, I think it hurts their efforts. Its seems like it would scare people away from their ideas rather than attract them.

They only manage to convert weak minded fools that way. My friends and I want to go to one... just to freak them out by laughing.

The weak minded fools are most likely already Christians.

Hell Houses are pathetic. If you rely on fear to convert people, your religion's message must be pretty weak.

My house is a hell house. Its poorly insulated and the floor is stating to weaken in a few places... I can't afford to fix it and don't have the time to attempt to do so myself :(

Speaking as a christ-centered christian who believes in Christ the Christ and has accepted Christ as my Christ, anything that emphasizes Christ, helps Christians to be Christ like, and brings Christ to your life is good.

I mean, Christ.

I consider the concept of a Hell House to be a very weak Haunted House.

Like any other effort to convert people to a religion I'm against them.

This isn't an effort at conversion. Its an effort at education, giving people the right information they need to make their own choice.

Just because the desired result is that they join a particular religion, that doensn't make it conversion! ......uh, wait....

Okay, no, what I mean is, just because the information is a set of religious claims and interpretations, in hopes that the threat of horrible things will convince you to join their....no, no, wait...

Okay, hang on, here it is: Hell Houses are not about converting people....because....

Okay, fine, they're about converting people.

But its for your own good, and not merely a means for believers to reinforce their own coping mechanism by convincing others.

You can't silence a verb just because you don't like the sort of things it might say! Free speech for parts of speech! Equality for collections of syllables that have an arbitrary relationship with real or imagined ideas, things, actions, concepts or persons!

There's nothing wrong with a hell house that isn't wrong with an episode of Outer Limits or traditional fairy tale. They provide the closest thing to a haunted house that some people can get, as the local religious nuts won't patronize a building full of chainsaw-wielding, baby-eating lunatics without some sort of spiritual justification.

Our Libs may be Mad, but they will be Free Libs, first! You cannot deny this, the inevitable march of freedom for it is the final result of all linguistic history.

You will rue your revolutionary rhetoric, the rightful rules of reading reign!

Your nouns will be denounced! Your verbs will have been made passive! Your adjectives will be indescribable!

Your participles will dangle from the gallows!

Your onomatopoeia will splat!

Yield to the Pedantic Order, or have been made destroyed!

Those hell houses wouldn't make me Christian; if anything, they'd make me lean more towards my current Force-Nature spirituality.

Theyre shameful. They show what its supposidly like in Hell. They are a haunted house that is essentially filled with gays and abortion doctors being tortured forever.

I pesonally think the goal of a Hell House isnt to convert, but in reality is just a place for fundies to go and masterbate to the depicted torture of their political and ideological enemies.

What is Force-Nature spirituality?

I dunno. It's not organised religion. I just believe in a universal force that binds all life and all nature. I sort of make it up as I go, the way I feel it should be.

They are usually called "Judgment" houses so as not to set off the warning bells for sensible people looking for an alternative to Halloween for their kids.

"Circle jerk" house more like it.

I thought 'brothel' was the term for this kind of place, and I wouldn't have thought Christians would be very open about visiting such places.
