Pumpkin - yummy or not?

Carving up a Halloween pumpkin's got me thinking - in the States, pumpkin was mostly for Jack-o-lanterns or pie when I was growing up. Here in Japan, it's just another veggy.

So, do ya'll like to eat pumpkin? Is so, how do you like it? Pie, soup, grilled, baked, pumpkin bread, toasted pumpkin seeds, or what?

I tried pumpkin pie once. I thought I would hate it, but it was suprisingly good.

I like to eat pumpkin. Specially is it's part of a nice soup or if it's stewed inside fabada or inside chick peas with chorizo.

I love pumpkin pie, baked pumpkin and pumpkin seeds. When I was a kid we'd always roast the seeds from our jack-o-lanterns.

Something I found interesting was the number of in the shell stews and other recipies. This (http://www.aliciasrecipes.com/Recipe/2008/Hamburger-Dinner-In-A-Pumpkin.htm) I want to try... Wondering if I can scale it down to kabocha pumpkin... maybe w/ some miso in the mix...

Yum, the miso sounds very good.
This is the garbanzo beans w/pumpkin I would kill for:

I adore pumpkin pie, and roast pumpkin seeds are pretty good.

I've never tried it any other way, although I want to. I have a recipe for a Thai pumpkin soup that sounds pretty tasty.

It's one of those things I really miss about fall at home. Pumpkin seeds, venison and the smell of fallen leaves on cold air.

It's a shame that Americans generally relegate pumpkins to pies, worthless lawn ornaments, or nothing at all. It belongs in a lot of stuff, because it's just that good.

You just add it while the garbanzos boil. It makes the stew thick and yummy.

Roasted and salted pumpkin seeds are good to nibble on.

Other than that, I don't think I can recall having eaten much pumpkin.

Pumpkin pie, bread, and soup are awesome, hence the greatness of the year-round availability of canned pumpkin. Intact pumpkins I'm not so big on compared to other squash, but they're pretty good roasted.

My wife adores pumpkin and since she does the cooking during the weekdays and Nagano grows a whole hell of a lot of kabocha, I get pumpkin soup, bread, salad (A mashed pumpkin with raisins, sugar, and, I think mayo), boiled and buttered, and just about everything else. Hell, my son's first birthday cake was a pumpkin cake.

I admit though that roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie still hold a special place in my heart.

The only problem I do have though comes around Halloween when I usually manage to get my hands on orange pumpkins (Japanese pumpkins are small and green) to carve jack-o-lanterns for my students to see. Since my kids view pumpkins as food, I usually have to stand guard over my poor jack-o-lantern to keep my students from attempting to find out if orange pumpkins are as good to eat as green ones.

Pumpkin is very popular in Australia. Oddly, for you Americans, sweet pumpkin pie, is never eaten here although pumpkin scones were popular in the 80s, thanks to the homely wife of a prominent politician.

I've read that Australians are the world's biggest eaters, per capita, of pumpkin in the world. It is a staple vegetable in most types of meals and pumpkin soup is common. Pretty well all supermarkets stock queensland blue, butternut and japala (also called Kent) varieties. My favourite is japala - a whole pumpkin (they're not all that large) would last me a couple of weeks.

My favourite pumpkin dish is one I devised on my own - pasta with a pumpkin and almond sauce.

Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin soup. Pumpkin ravioli.

I drew Spongebob on a small pumpkin and put it on my desk a week ago -- my Asian students were stunned and perhaps even a bit scandalized -- "Miss.... that's FOOD!"

I tried pumpkin pie once. I thought I would hate it, but it was suprisingly good.
Try Pumpkin CHEESECAKE. MMMMMmmmmmmm yummy!

Pumpkin is great... the first few times in a season you eat it.
I have a theory that the aftertaste of pumpkin takes months to completely go away. This aftertaste builds up every time you eat it, until eventually the idea of eating pumpkin again disgusts you. Then the winter season ends, and you go months without.
