A question for Pagan/heathen here

Ok, so Samhain is coming up, and I still don't have a ritual robe. :( I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a good quality robe that's made out of good quality fabric that I can wear during Samhain, rituals, and other events that calls for it. Up till now, I've been wearing a black shirt with black slacks. However, whenever I look for a robe, they cost pretty much in the $200 to $300s. Does anyone know any good ritual robe that won't break the bank?

Get you to a cloth store, purchase you several feet of cloth, and the maketh a robe.

Try a relatively masculine nightgown.

Hmm....That could work. This way I can at least put the symbol on my avatar on the back of my robe, or a Thor's Hammer.

Check yourself in to emergency at the hospital, then you get one for free (or included in the price depending on where you live).

Yep that is what I done, and it cost me about £5.

I would advise doing your rituals naked, except for this particular season.

I am Pagan, and I do rituals for Woden and Freya, and during these rituals I would like to have a robe on as my attire. So, ergo I need a ritual robe.

Robes are probably one of the easier things to make yourself (especially sleeveless). I'm pretty certain you can find relevant patterns on the web. My advice really is to make it yourself, not only will it be much cheaper, but it will also mean you have a personal connection to it and it fits what you want, not what model they happen to have in stock/is cheapest.

I totally missed it. :( I say go skyclad, it's the way nature intended.

Sheets. They come in many colors - red, black, white, etc. Buy sets in the colors you want (king sized would work best - more wiggle room for mistakes) and make them into robes. I learned this in the SCA.

Everyone missed it, I didn't tell anyone because 1. I didn't want anyone to try to convience me to stay in the Church, and 2. I didn't want anyone peddling their religion to me, I wanted the ability to choose for myself.

Willy-tan, this is NSG, I don't think you have to fear anyone here peddeling their religious views on you.

And if it's the people around you, shame on them for trying to interfere with your choices.:)

Ooh, a SCAdian. I'm just getting into the society at the moment.

Anyway, how easy it is to make a robe depends on how complex a robe you want. But a simple one can be done easily --- if you don't object to the inherent symbolism, a classic monks robe is very easy to make. I can go dig up/link you to instructions if you want.

Why go for black only?

Depending upon your sewing skill, making it yourself will be better. More significant than just buying the thing. There are costume patterns available now, so grab one that appeals, and sew away. (Jedi style? Medieval? Open in the front - like a bathrobe, or closed? )

T- Tunics are YOUR friend...

Another source suggested, (and don't laugh) is to look into bathrobes. then 'spiffy' it up a touch, if you don't wanna do the 'sew it ' routine.

Also, if I read correctly, you are friends with SCAdians? Most SCAdians I know would be happy to help make it WITH you. (if not for you) - you might have to shell out something in trade. (mead works wonders in this area. :)

You don't need one. Nobody I know has one. The last two Beltanes running I just wore a black shirt with a cool design on it, black pants and boots. Some people went naked or half naked.

Just get some fabric and make one, if it's that important.
