Promises you never make

So, everyone has promises that they make, and promises that they don't make. What are some of the promises that you never make?
As for me, I never promise someone that I won't hurt them, I don't promise that we'll be bestest buddies forever, or we'll be together forever. I also never promise that I'll never get annoyed or frustrated in public, etc.

Nor do I promise to do things that I don't have the ability to do.
Damn, that's a lot of stuff. :(

I've never promised my ladyfriend that we'll be together forever. Forever is a damn long time. Plus, on of us will inevitably die first, even if we last that long.

'promise' is possibly the least used word in my vocabulary.

I don't know. I generally don't make promises. The promises I do make however, I always keep. I value that my word means something.
I never promise it will all be okay.

I learned early on never to make promises to my children about anything. Most of the time I had no trouble keeping promises, but on occasion things would come up that prevented me from keeping them (like having to spend the movie money on a new tire). Kids remember broken promises - forever. It's best to say something like, "I can't promise you that we'll ...., but I'll do the best I can."

this is why I try to never make a promise to anyone. Too many things can come up that would make it impossible for me to fulfill the promise.

Quite simply, I don't make a promise that I know I can't keep.
The only promises I make are to myself...I break most of them.
I only make simple promises. Such things like "I promise to do the dishes, and pet the cat."
Anything beyond that I don't make promises because you never know what will happen. I have on occasion just to reassure someone promised to try to do something but some people don't quite understand its not a direct promise.

I don't promise, I vow. :)
So far in my life I am yet to break one of my vows.
I try to avoid promising things I can't keep, so I haven't promised to do anything in years.

I never promise to keep my promises, and that sort of distinction is why I am so very alone.

I never promise that love will be eternal. I just say that, as long as it lasts, it should be enjoyed.

But one can always hope. In the end, only time, and the determination of the couple, will tell.

Indeed, but for the record, I never make the promise to love forever.
I promise that I'll never give you up, never let you down, never run around and desert you.

Herd and understood. People do change in time, after all. I try not to make promises either, only express my feelings.

I promise not to tackle you into the mud.
I promise not to kick you in the groin.
I promise that the scrotum-seeking attack weasels are only coming to your house for tea and cookies.
I promise to take you seriously.
You have my solemn word that this is not a cupcake in my pants.
Edit: I promise this thrown pie will veer away from your face at the last second.

This thread has hit me with a few truths that will leave me feeling sad for the rest of the day... :(
i basically never make promises, period. because making a promise is making an asumption that we live in a world and a universe that we can count upon to allow us to keep it, which is just totally ignorant of the ones we actually live in. and that to me, makes it totally irresponsible to make promises at all.
one can commit oneself to attempting to fallow a particular path, but even that is perhapse just a step or two beyond anything that can actually be counted upon.
it isn't that we can't ever count upon our own intentions, certainly, but rather what reality may or may not allow us to be able to do about it, that, i do not honestly believe we, any of us, can EVER, 'count' upon!

I never promise to sell my home to strangers and use the money to buy a large, gilded cardboard box. It's a stupid idea, why would I?
There are an infinity of other things I don't promise, but this was the first one that came to mind.

I don't make promises I can't keep. If there's a risk I can't keep it (even a small one) I don't promise.

Er, probabaly something along the lines of:
"I promise I'll get off the computer as soon as I've finished this post..."
For some reason, and no matter how hard I try, I can just never keep it.
