NS2 is quite slow, and it may take some time for people to migrate over. I give NS about 1-2 more years at least.

I believe NationStates has a long way to go yet before we start considering it "done."

The fork doesn't come out clean, after all.

Like it was pointed out, it's not even open beta. I'd consider it alpha at this point. Besides, the forums won't die even if NS becomes a little less popular.

NS2 is quite crappy (yes, I'm in the beta) compared to NS1. Lots of features, but if you're going to RP, not for you. And if you aren't, you probably aren't on these forums anyway. People won't migrate.

You know, when I read the thread title, I thought for sure the topic would be centered around "how long before the government of shuts NS down for dissent and sedition." That would have been a hilarious read, and I wouldn't have put it past the people here to make a conversation about it.

And I say that with love, of course. ^^;

NS2 is also awful. I fully expect NS to remain more popular.

Like it was pointed out, it's not even open beta. I'd consider it alpha at this point. Besides, the forums won't die even if NS becomes a little less popular.

Indeed, it's an alpha now - war, which is supposed to be one of the biggest features hasn't even been enabled yet. However, the developers are claiming it'll be open before the US elections. (Note: that gives 'em less than a week to test war.)

NS2 is quite crappy (yes, I'm in the beta) compared to NS1. Lots of features, but if you're going to RP, not for you. And if you aren't, you probably aren't on these forums anyway. People won't migrate.

Indeed. I really don't think the developers "got" NS. So far the only real feature that's been seen is the economic engine, and I don't particularly care for it. OTOH, they've done away with or broken many of the good points of NS: no WA/UN, regions replaced by continents + alliances. I agree that people won't migrate. Considering OMAC, however, when they realise NS2 isn't as popular, they may try and force people over by closing NS.

NSG has a game based on it now?

I see a platform-based game, each level being a particular debate, final stage of each debate being a battle against the perceived owner of those debates, and the various weapons they use.

So TCT might own equal rights, with his Weapons of Mass Citation
Bottle might own evolution,
Jocabia politics.

There's trolls to avoid, the Wrath of the Mods, godwins hurled and more, you start at n00b level and make your way up,

Of course the final stage would be a massive pie fight with LG.

If I had the time...

Probably. RPers tend to come and go more quickly, if I'm not mistaken, but it has always seemed NSG was more sedentary.

I don't see any expiration date on NS. :p

My 2 scents:

NS2 isn't ready for primetime yet. It still has errors, the server's unreliable, and major features *cough*war*uncough* aren't even enabled. I do think it will be ready by the NEXT presidential election. :p

It's also not NS1. It has features that NS1 lacks, and I think it has potential. But there are also things that are better in NS1, and I'm sure a lot of people, including hard-core RPers, that will stick with NS1. And I still plan to play both games. :)
