Anyone know any good Halloween movies. Horror, exactly. If you can't think of any, what were the first you saw, favorites, etc. Have fun wid it! (Don't refrain from poking fun at the bad ones, either!):)

They're all bad, or mostly. Maybe I've read too much TVTropes, but I see their stupid plot twists and victims coming a mile away.

1) Black dude dies first.
2) Sex=death. The chaste virgin survives. Anyone trying to tempt her dies.
3) Alcohol and drugs=death.
4) The more attractive you are, the longer you live.

Except for the hunky but dumb guy, preferably on some sort of sports team, and the cheerleader. Those 2 always get the chop pretty quick.

Watch Reincarnation and Abandoned. I'll bet you'll be a long time guessing what the twists are.

Nightmare Man is another one with two twists.

Cherry Falls (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0175526/) would blow your 'rules' outta the water. ;)

For God's sake, NO! Apparently 1 and 2 are the only excellent ones in the series anyway. I've been told 3 is pretty bad and 4 and 5 are shite.

As a rule a franchise is just milking it about the second sequel.

Unless they're trying to tie up all loose ends and not have it be forced. I hate it when movies employee deus ex machina to tie up all loose ends.

Ichi the Killer and Suicide Club, 2 very good J-Horror films. Ichi the Killer is about a young adult (17-20 years old) who is mentally unbalanced but used as an assassin. Suicide Club is somewhat similar to The Happening where people kill themselves but in groups (ex. opening scene in a train station a bunch of girls line up then jump in the front of the arriving train).

Might we also add scary games to play on Halloween? I'm putting out Left 4 Dead, a zombie survival game you play with 3 other people that was made by Valve, the creators of Half Life. Throw in Silent Hill: Homecoming.

You haven't spent enough time reading the main page, it seems. Else you'd have noticed the link to Tropes Are Not Bad (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TropesAreNotBad). I can pick out the story of just about any story I read, but that doesn't make them less enjoyable.

These are Slasher conventions, not Horror. Whether you accept that Slashers are a subgenre of Horror (I don't, I view Slasher movies as something that have grown out of Horror) or not, you can't say that all Horror films are Slashers.
I love SAW I-IV, and I'm going to see V this Halloween.
Yes, but we've already determined that you have no taste in movies.

Out of all of the stories in the Books of Blood why would you make a movie about that one? I mean, why not The Yattering and Jack or Confessions of a Shroud? Those are funny!

Go watch this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0960890/).

it's hilarious. and it stars Jenna Jameson in a very... unique... but interesting... er... fight?

quotes from the movie...
Dr. Genet: The virus is based on the human X chromosome, so it stays more pure from woman to woman. But once you get a man in there, like everything else, it all goes to shit.

Davis: I know we're Christians, and what you're doing is a sin, but the intent is, well, Christ-like with you sacrificing yourself and all. So what are morals? Do the ends justify the means? But then again the road to hell is paved with good intentions, so...darn, I'm out of clichés.

I saw this last night... I was laughing my head off! :D

may I suggest...

Reincarnation
Ju-on 2 (not Grudge 2)
Retribution
Eye (original Chinese, not the American one)

yes, they're Asian and will require subtitles. but they are good.

their ways of making you jump are subtle. a shadow in the background, a wavy distortion, a little detail that makes you go WTF?

Watch 'Unbreakable' if you are looking to be deeply disturbed by a movie for Halloween. I was scared shitless not only whilewatching it, but for days afterwards. Scared that such an absolutely awful film got made, put out, and, worst of all, was not a complete flop. Horrifying. *shudders*

I just saw Willard on AMC. It is fucking great, not very scary, of course, but Crispin Glover's performance as a spastic psycho was delicious. How many actors can perform opposite a rat and still be so amazing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2lNR4L_JEQ) as this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu2sSVt32bo&feature=related)?

Unbreakable was not a horrible movie. Shyamalan is just a horrible director; the movie itself had promise but Shyamalan ruined it. What's really scary is he directed a movie that was actually good and critically acclaimed - The Sixth Sense. I bet some one else directed it and he just claimed he did after beating them to death and hiding the body.

Other way round, surely... the direction was fine, the production was fine. It was just a weak concept, fleshed out to 90 minutes.

No, it was a good concept. It was poorly implemented. It's like they took the introduction to the movie and made it 90 minutes long and then said "ah fuck it, it's too long already" and left out the movie.
I blame Shyamalan. Look at his other movies. They all fucking suck except for Sixth Sense.

you are wrong. you are so so wrong.
The Sixth Sense also sucked sweaty monkey ass.
the ending was so trite and predictable. lame lame lame.

All his movies are trailers extended to 90 minutes. A passable idea for a short story made into a novel. which is why they suck so much and are so irritating. You watch it thinking the entire time, "this could have been good"

Actually, "Unbreakable" is my least favourite of his canon. (Well, that and the last 30 minutes of "Signs"), but I can't fault even that one for direction or production. Even Bruce Willis was really quite good - one of his 'up' roles, rather than a 'down'. As a director, I quite like him. Enough so that - if I hear he's got a new movie coming out, I'll probably see it in theatres.

It was a mickey-mouse concept. It would have been a cute Twilight Zone. I like it okay, because it kind of re-invents the superhero (movie) genre - pre-empting Hancock, and making it possible for Watchmen to finally hit the big screen. I like it okay, because it's pretty to look at, and there's nothing really WRONG with it.

What I don't like about it, is the same thing I didn't like about... say... "House of 1000 Corpses". It's almost ALL style, and no substance.

The Re-Animator is a fun and goofy adaptation of a non-Cthulhu Lovecraft story. The villain looks amazingly like John Kerry, so there is some added amusement in that.
