Why is Dwarf Fortress the best game ever conceived?

My opinion is that the combination of the lack of graphics beyond g, and the pure replayability of the game modes adds to the best thing in the universe.

I should also point out that slaughtering kittens and nobles seems to be the most valuable way to spend your time in that game.

Of course, you could let the kittens grow up and become cats, but then your dwarfs will eventually all tantrum to death.

You could also let your nobles live (as I do), but they are, largely, useless.

More stone, that is what I speaketh of.

Also, more gems and ores, but still, annoyingly enough, it takes so much more to make anything out of metal.

I wish they would change that, because I do not enjoy having to have magma forges. I rather dislike them.

I prefer towers of doom, grates of death and an artifact dining room that serves as the personal dining room for every single noble (and they like it too).

Let's not forget the fact that every respectable noble needs his personal zoo of exotic and deadly beasts. As well as a lever to grant his nobleness even further comfort and power.

Also, most amusing fortress ever: The mountainhomes had no access to any sort of underground water. So they had no underground seeds. No booze, no tower caps, nothing farmable!

My goal then, became simple: Create the first fortress to supply booze once more to the dwarves.

It made me realize just how impossible that feat is. It simply takes too much to make the barrels, and the risk involved against cave crocodiles is immense at first (but quickly disappears).
