McCain's nostalgic lie (he will raise taxes)

John McCain says he wont raise taxes. He's lying. Just like Bush part I when he said "Read my lips. No new taxes!"
The national debt is higher than it's ever been. Some sort of alt energy plan has to be put into place. And the Middle East area has become more dangerous than before 9-11.
John McCain is lying.
Dear Mods:
I appologize if I should have posted this in the Popcorn thread. But was wondering if we can now have a few different threads for some of the specific issues since just a few days left till the election. With 3000+ posts on that thread it's getting hard to keep a train of thouht. I was also wanting to start another thread about their 2 different alt energy plans.
Yes, the choices are lying, out of touch with reality, or he has dementia (which I guess is a case of being out of touch with reality).
With our national debt, and the new 700 billion Bush and Congress just added, unless the government intends to renege on all that debt and REALLY completely wreck the country more or less permanently, we will see taxes for the lifetimes of our grandchildren.
The national debt is higher than it's ever been. Some sort of alt energy plan has to be put into place. And the Middle East area has become more dangerous than before 9-11.
And there's no way to cut spending?

Taxes will be raised. Massively. Whoever is president. And they'll be raised on those least able to avoid them, i.e., the lower 95%.
Both candidates are lying about their plans for the future. The next presidents job will be to preside over gargantuan tax hikes and enormous spending cuts.
You can forget alternative energy and green initiatives too. That sort of thing is for people with money. Which america isn't.

And so is Obama he is lying also there will be no change and he will be raising taxes for the poor and lowering them for the rich.

Well, the marginal rate for the rich is the same as the long term cap gains rate, and I think he talked about raising that. So he'll probably raise taxes for everyone. Though rich people don't pay social security/medicare, and since budget shortfalls will probably once again be solved by 'fixing' those two ponzi schemes, I don't think the rich are going to bear the brunt. There is also the issue that it is just too easy to offshore for them.

McCain & Obama both agree that the billion dollar spitballs from the Military-Industrial Complex has to stop. (with more oversite) That will help some but were talking about 10 trillion dollars for a debt:
http://zfacts.com/p/461.html
The American people are going to have to pony up at some point in time.
Lacadaemon
23-10-2008, 14:09
We could carve about $5 trillion off that straight away by ending the fraud known as social security and medicare.

Wait wait wait, there's another solution to all this.
They could just sell off a state, say Alaska back to the Russians, maybe sell off Florida as well, Nevada to the Chinese,
Any others?

Actually I reckon we should 'sell' taiwan to the chinese. That's $2 trillion in the pot right there.

Ok maybe we can go ahead and cover alt energy here since it's pretty much all about the money.
McCain's alt energy plan is quite expensive. Nuke plants need nuke techs and a whole bunch of security plus tons of money to build.
Obama's plan calls for things like windmill farms in the wind belt. (about 1500 miles wide from Texas to Canada) A windmill is just a stick in the ground with blades on top. All that's required to run a windmill farm is someone that went to trade school and owns a cellphone & shotgun.
Cheaper utility bills would be a big help for everybody.

The issue that most seem to not understand is that, by and large, the "poor" pay NO taxes, yet we give them a "tax cut" by giving them someone else's hard earned money. The folks who do pay taxes (the gainfully employed, homeowners, business owners, Republicans) get slapped with the label "rich" and, ultimately, the bill for this redistribution of wealth.
God knows there are vast numbers of would-be Marxists here. Hopefully someday they will get degrees, get jobs, move out of their parents' basement and see why "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" is such an unjust lie.

Hawaii can go back to the UK.
Why would you want Nevada to go the the Chinese? Surely it brings in a lot of money via taxes amongst other ways for the country?

Then again, we could sell lottery tickets for one of those places -- Hawaii would be off limits because the Japanese already own it.

I'd say that by far the best thing to do is to sell DC, of course with all the politicians and military top brass 'n'everything. It won't fetch a very high price, but think of the cuts in spending that'll give!

It's not about what I want, it's about what can be sold, the Chinese would love to buy some of that gambling action.
Now Michigan... there's a hard sell.

Sell Florida to the Cubans, and Texas to Mexico as well as the New England States back to England, California to India and Utah to... well there is another hard sell what's in Utah?

Windmills need maintenance too; they have huge moving parts. And, as with nukes, you'll always have the NIMBY problem. That's why Chappaquiddick Ted shot down the idea in Massachusetts.
Nuke plants are steam-driven generators with a phenomenally good safety record except the famous one built by socialists (you get more radiation by walking outside on a sunny day that you would have done at ground zero at Three Mile Island.)

I guess I could asset strip the place, I'm sure the White House is worth a few bob to collectors.

I want the next President to cut the military spending. Haliburton is already fat, pick on them and those other war material groups that have gluted themselves at our expense.
I doubt it will happen though. :(
The only one who did say a little about it was Obama during the first debate about military spending.
And McCain won't even do it. He says freeze everything except Military spending. Blah.....

ZOMG!!! (http://www.tradewatch.org/pressroom/release.cfm?ID=140)Voters shut down the one near where I live because it spent so much time down. Sure there was a big no-nukes campaign but if the damn thing wasn't such a lousy return on the investment it probably woulda stayed running. You don't help your cause as a safe form of energy when you spend 3/4 of the time shut down for maintenence, problems or safety issues...

Japan is a country that has made proper use of nuclear power. We get a good portion of our power from a relatively small number of facilities, and they've withstood the earthquakes that are commonplace here with relatively few issues. There was a fun incident with a few gallons of water spilling into the ocean recently, but it's essentially insignificant.
I'm not saying that nuclear power is suited to the United States, because Japan doesn't have to deal with nearly as many problems associated with transmitting the power long distances, but it's not a failed power source by any means.
