SNOW! (And other types of weather)

Colorado is known for its odd, chaotic weather, being on the edge of a number of different climates, and having so much irrigation pumped into it by humans wanting to grow crops. (Silly humans.)

Up here in Pine, we tend to get some of the weirdest, being at about 8400 feet (2560 meters.) Just last Saturday, the 18th, we were having 70-80 degree(21-26 Celsius) weather.

Now?

This all happened last night too. That's about nine inches(22.86 centimeters) of snow.

Crazy.

I live on the coast of California, there's only at best a 20 degree (f) difference in seasons.

There are, however, 'micro-climates' so that you could be tooling along all warm and fine and then all of a sudden, foggy and cold. I grew up in Sacramento, where if it was hot, it was hot. When I bought a convertible my dad, who had grown up on the coast, told me to always carry a jacket because you never know when it might get cold suddenly. This made me think he was high, until I moved to the coast and went through three distinct climates in thirty minutes.

There is never any crazy weather in London. You hear about places that have 30C+ heat and snowfall in the same day. London sometimes doesn't have either in a year.

Pssf,it not uncommon to get 60cm of snow up here in Canada. With drifts more like 80cm. And snowstorm after snowstorm,or rain,or freezing hail or sleet in the same storm. While the west coast has hurraince force winds or the east is blanketed in fog. I think our summers is about two weeks long. Even if it did snow a bit during July last year...

The weather here in New Mexico turns rather schizophrenic this time of year as well. This week is no different: thunderstorms yesterday, cold and windy today, sunny and back in the 70s by this weekend. But at least down here in the "little Texas" region we don't usually have to worry about that scary white stuff this time of year...

Where I've been on vacation in France it's been absolutely gorgeous. It's been in the high 50s or low 60s (4-6C) which would normally feel very warm to me, but since I'm acclimated to Kuwaiti weather I'm freezing my balls off.

Well, there was some sign of summer weather, in early October of course. Now it's got rather colder but there have been some lovely clear days without a cloud in the sky and a very refreshing breeze while cycling. And then it rains for a whole day and I take the bus.

PM, your descriptions are very apt, I do love strikingly mediocre adjectives.

We had a tornado in May once (not out of the ordinary) but we ended up with 2 feet of hail in the yard (very out of the ordinary, especially since just 30 minutes earlier it was 80F out).......there was hail everywhere, the roads were icy....then it melted in like 30 minutes and another tornado.

Japan had a cold spell not too long ago, but we're back up in the temps, so it's rather warm for us for fall. Currently we're getting 18-20C days and 6-8C nights. It's not too bad, it makes for a great fall season and perfect weather to go leaf viewing. It's raining today though. :P

That said, Nagano's winter is just around the corner with highs right around freezing, lows well below it, lots of snow, AND NO CENTRAL HEATING!!!

Now, Nevada's weather is truly insane. It's snowed every month in Nevada except for August and I remember one January that managed to hit the 80's (F). It also changes just about every 5 minutes. It's kinda nice to live in a place that has four regular seasons and actually sticks to them instead of skipping around or trying them all out in the space of a week.

Weather down here is pretty stable. Around 40-50F(4.4-10C) in the morning times. To around 75-85F (23.8-29.5C) around 3:00 PM. Then it gets colder as it passes that point. We also lack rain, which we need, badly. And it's VERY humid here, all the time. :(

We had a cold, wet summer and it's a bitter, grey fall, but there's nothing too unusual about it.

A couple of years ago we had thunder and lightning in a snowstorm. That's about the strangest weather I've seen.

We're having a drought. It sucks.

I mean, it normally doesn't rain more than once or twice between April/May and September/October. That's fine. But we had a really dry winter last year, and I'm afraid we might have another one this year, as my sky's looking awfully empty.
