Yet another goodie out of Florida.

ORLANDO, Florida (AP) — Police were hoping for a good turnout at their "Kicks for Guns" program to exchange weapons for sneakers, but they weren't expecting a surface-to-air missile launcher.

An man exchanged the 4-foot-long launcher for Reebok sneakers for his daughter, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday.

Taking advantage of the exchange's no-questions-asked policy, the man was not identified. He told the Orlando Sentinel that he found the weapon in a shed he tore down last week.

"I didn't know what to do with it, so I brought it here," he told the newspaper. "I took it to three dumps to try to get rid of it and they told me to get lost."

Besides the missile launcher police collected more than 250 guns. They were all exchanged for sneakers or US$50 gift certificates.

If I lived in Florida, I'd hang out a sign next door offering $100 per gun. I recommend that the NS General gun nut population actually go and do that.

It's a BTM/BGM 71A-3 missile tube, as far as I can tell. More commonly known as a TOW missile tube. Not anti-aircraft, anti-tank.

I should do that - but what will I do with the crap .32 and .25 junk guns? What are the odds I'll get something GOOD like an HK or FN-FAL?

I wonder if they'd take a 0% lower receiver forging (http://www.dsarms.com/AR15-Lower-Receiver-7075-T6-Alloy-Forging-Military-Spec/productinfo/1001/), in exchange for sneakers. http://www.getsmileyface.com/sm/evil/210.gif

Oh, THAT makes it normal.

I'm just clarifying what it actually is. Also, the TOW missile tube is disposable, so without a missile it's completely harmless (unless you hit someone over the head with it). Therefore, there's really nothing wrong with someone owning it (my local army/navy surplus store is selling a demilled bazooka, because like the TOW missile tube, it can't be reloaded or fired).
