Where would you emmigrate to?

So I've noticed a few theads discussing best/worst countries, noticed alot of national pride, I thought I'd attempt to bypass that and ask where people would most like to move to if they couldn't live in their current nation?

Personally I'd like to move the USA or Canada if i wasn't allowed to stay in my dear Britannia.

As I say, it'd still be a reluctant move. Regardless of being a British territory, it would still be a little too "foreign" for my liking.

EDIT: Plus, you can have too much sunshine. The British weather is more interesting.

I'm an Aussie and I'm happy where I am - but if I had to move I'd consider New Zealand or New Caledonia in the Pacific (It's a good climate!).
I loved California when I visited - Santa Barbara was great! Yosemite was beautiful. Big Sur was cool. I was in Boston when the Red Socks won the world series. Boston feels a lot like my city, Melbourne , in Australia. I lived in England and could happily live there despite the weather (the English seem to thrive on it though - at least those who don't migrate to Southern France or Spain.)
Ah! Home is where the heart is - I think I'll stay in Oz and visit the rest!

Actually, unless I have a snuggle partner .. I ain't going to a cold area. I'd go south.. Brazil or something.

If you are going to come to Brazil, don't go to São Paulo. It is a big messy city with huge traffic problems, and a lot of pollution - Birmingham UK with signs in Portuguese.

Try almost any state capital other than São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro or Salvador.
(Rio is too touristy and has severe problems with gang violence, Salvador is too expensive and has a very large underclass community that cause some major security headaches.)

I emigrated - to Brazil. If I were to move again it would be because of a business opportunity - so where is unpredictable

Good news, then. I've learned that I am big in Japan, Germany like me more than the 'other' sort of Englishman, I'm okay with the former Yugoslavia, and a surprisingly large part of Melbourne will mourn my departure. Britain, on the other hand, hasn't been big in Japan for a century, is a joke to the typical German, is guilty of war crimes in Yugoslavia, and is just a big pile of pommie nonsense to Melbourne.

I'm coming back in a bad mood. I might rob Tesco then leave again. That sounds good. Ideally I'd go dahn sarf, smack Gordon over the privacy intrusions he's allowing, then vote for him so long as he accepts that criticism, then rob Tesco and leave again. We'll see.

Well, Asia because I like the people there, I like the culture, which is thousands of years old and has still brought us innovations like mangas (and the beloved game from which I drew my nation's name). Also east asia is a center of technology and freedom of research unmatched in the west, were money goes into social stuff and research and its application is curtailed by pc.

Antarctica, because if I cant be amongst the people I like, I don't want to be amongst people at all :D.

Shanghai

Out of interest, why Shanghai and Singapore?

Personally I am seriously considering:

* Paris. I'd love to do a stint at some of the institutions there, work wise. Life wise, it has some fantastic cultural life and, odd though it may seem, I prefer contemporary French culture to British. Having watched Sarkozy on Al Jazeera yesterday, that just increased, too.

* Marseille. I like the atmosphere, and some of the local cultural institutions are good, but it doesn't beat Paris.

* Seville. My favourite city. The best archaeological institute in Spain, one of the biggest Erasmus universities is nearby (Granada) and the cultural life is excellent.

* Cairo. If I ever retire, it'll probably be here. Lovely city, but I wouldn't work there, or try to do anything important.

Outside contenders: Alexandria, Heraklion, Nicosia, Athens, Toulon, Almeria.

Shanghai because it's the place to be at the moment. Everyone who is money-driven, ruthless and utterly amoral apparently goes to Shanghai at the moment - the advertising industry takes centre stage. I just wanna see how long I can stand it.

Singapore sounds like an exciting place. I've only stopped over at the airport, and the weather would screw with me something fierce, but the combination of various influences and the complete reliance on world trade make it something of a bastion of globalisation.

Birmingham has nothing on São Paulo traffic :p Crowdest subway in the world, no bicycle tracks, junky buses, and traffic all day long. As for the other capitals, Belo Horizonte is becoming more and more like São Paulo. A tip would be to go to southern state capitals like Curitiba, which is a great place to live in. Florianopolis has great beaches and less hassles than the touristy Rio.

Amsterdam for its society and infrastructure, or Dubrovnik for its eastern european charm. Some small city in New Zealand. Prague! Beautiful capital of a growing country. MANY places in Germany. Some quiet village in Crete to retire and plant wine... I guess it depends on when I'm moving. Right now, I'd stick for Amsterdam.
Dakini

There are lots of places that seem neat... note I haven't been to the places I'm about to list so I'm not sure how awesome they are.

New Zealand (I've met a number of kiwis and I haven't met one that I don't like)
Spain (seems like it would be pretty cool)
France (wine, cheese, bread... all essential foods)
Belgium (a country known for beer, chocolate and waffles... really, how can you go wrong?)

Oh, and I would probably happily move to Italy as well (but I've been there so it didn't make the first list), I would probably develop an overinflated ego though due to being constantly hit on, but at least men there hit on a woman properly.
Also, Hawaii is nice. I'm not sure if I could live there for a long time though, I've heard that islands (especially ones that are geographically isolated) tend to have the sort of issue where no matter how long you've lived there, you're still not part of the club because you're not *from* there.

You surely know what quality is, sir.
