It suddenly hit me...

I'm addicted to caffeine. As i was researching the subject of caffeine on wikipedia, I noticed the symptoms of withdrawal and how long it takes to begin it's effects.
Withdrawal symptoms—possibly including headache, irritability, an inability to concentrate, and stomach aches[64]—may appear within 12 to 24 hours after discontinuation of caffeine intake, peak at roughly 48 hours, and usually last from one to five days, representing the time required for the number of adenosine receptors in the brain to revert to "normal" levels, uninfluenced by caffeine consumption.
Which is exactly the symptoms that have been hitting me over the head like an aluminum bat for the past few days.

So NSGers, have you had any caffeine or addiction related revelations as of late?

When I gave up caffeine, I don't recall all of that, but I did sleep a whole lot.

Well, once after having ten cups of coffee I got the shakes and my heart started palpitating.

I decided one to two cups at a time were plenty after that.

How long did it take you to down all ten cups?

When I was in high school, I took a caffine pill plus had my coffee and couldn't hold my hand steady for my entire trig exam. My drawings were...special.

I regularly get a caffine addiction for a few months (usually summer), then ease it back throughout the year untill it is finals time. No finals anymore though...

Caffeine. An awsome addiction. (for me anyway) I only crave it when it gets real cold in the winter. (coffee) Never had a side effect. (but I don't drive when I sweeten it with ammereto)

Most Americans are addicted to caffeine, hell most first worlders are. I however am not. I don't drink coffee, and limit myself to a little bit of tea daily.

A recent study (couple years ago) said 4 cups of coffee per day can reduce the chance of liver cancer for those that drink a lot of alcohol.

I'm not completely caffeine-free, but I did manage to beat the addiction. I don't get withdrawal symptoms if I don't have any for a few days. (Probably longer, though I haven't tried.)

I didn't like being addicted, but it really took leaving work to beat the addiction. That "typically 1 to 5 days" Wiki says didn't apply to me -- I had daily debilitating headaches for over two weeks. I eventually allowed myself a "maintenance dose" of 1 coke or cup of tea per day and then weaned myself off of that.

Being addicted didn't seem to have any side effects (other than the occasional inadvertent OD) but I didn't like knowing that I couldn't go for more than 24 hours without a fix.

Never happens to me. I drink plenty of espresso, and can go for days without it suffering no ill effects other than missing the taste of my iced lattes. Now, tobacco is a whole other animal; I'll get quite displeased without relatively frequent trips to Flavor Country.

I just found my excuse for my coffee addiction! Now all I have to do is find something similar for my alcoholism! Maybe they can benefit each other?

Caffeine withdrawal makes me feel more, erm, "high" than caffeine itself.

I get all soft and mellow when I'm out of caffeine for a day or two. Which usually happens when I'm hungover and can't be arsed to make coffee. :D
