Du Fu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Du_Fu) - morally strict, technically brilliant, troubled life due to external difficulties

Li Bai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Bai) - bohemian lifestyle, naturally inspired, troubled life due to internal failings

Who do you identify with?

They were great friends.

I wouldn't say I was "born rich" per se, but I do have a knack for squandering almost every natural advantage I possess.

I identify with both, except I haven't a trouble in the world.

Yeah, I took those points out because I thought it biased the poll.

Fair do's.

You are required to write a two-line poem in penance.

For those reading later, I'd put that Du Fu was born poor and Li Bai was born rich but then felt they these weren't necessarily to do with character as such.

I feel this somewhat encapsulates one schism in this world, one might call it Confucian over Taoist.

I identify with both, except I haven't a trouble in the world.

Poetically capture this please.

A poem doesn't need to rhyme, it needs to capture something about yourself using as few words as possible.

Neither apply to me fully.

Neither apply to me fully.

I'd say that's true for most people, which side of the scale are you?

Excel in your answer please.

Other than that, I'm out, I should really bring my power cord home.

I leave with quoting my favourite lines from one of these poets.

...and you, you are a thousand miles away,

yet there are always two cups on my table

I love this sentiment about friends.

Neither - I'm Buddhist, not Confucian or Taoist, which is the real split here as I interpret your question.

If you're doing chinese poets, where is Cao Zhi?

Given the choice, Li Bai all the way. Except I suck at poetry.

morally strict, technically brilliant, naturally inspired, troubled life due to external difficulties and internal failings.

Why was there not a Chinese poet like that?:(

Interesting.

Li Bai seems to fit. Bohemian lifestyle, (I grew up in the 60s) naturally inspired. (my subconcious does all the work though) and a troubled life due to internal failings. (My bursitis hurts like hell sometimes)

I'm technically brilliant and naturally inspired, but I'm not Chinese. So I identify with neither.
