Do you gamble?

If so, what do you gamble on?

Card games? If so which ones, Horses? Dogs? Politics? Sporting games?

How much do you gamble? Do you gamble within your means or over?

When do you gamble?

What is the greatest amount you have won/lost?

And last why do you gamble?

For starters I gamble, I gamble $10 every second Friday at a fortnightly home poker game amongst friends. I also gamble at the casino usually on the Black jack table or pontoon table. I may occasionally gamble on the big wheel and sometimes Roulette. When doing this $50 is my limit and when on the blackjack tables I will go on the $10 minimum bet tables.

I also gamble at the casino playing poker games, I go on the 1/2 table where the maximum buy in is $80 if I lose this I lose this if I win I win, or after spending a night on the table I just leave with whatever I have left over.

I have bet on sports games as well, but usually just head to head or if the odds are good and I know I will win I will bet on a season result for a team.

The only time I bet on the horses is on Melbourne Cup day, where I will bet on a few races, last year I bet a total of $70 and walked out of the track with $260 in my pocket.

So do you gamble?

Nope, as I'm thirteen. But I did play poker in school before they banned it.

Stocks.

Over.

The biggest win was over $10,000, the biggest loss, a few thousand (it's hard to tell precisely), recently.

And last why do you gamble?
It's fun, and ultimately I win more than I lose.

I gamble a bit, I'm pretty good at blackjack and come up on top more than I lose. I also play poker with friends. I always limit myself depending on what I have available and don't do it for long, the longer I play the longer the odds of winning.

:) I remember being told that trading and selling on the stock market is an advanced form of gambling

Damn, but then I suppose you must gamble in the thousands.

i play poker. ive never brought more than $100 to the table so i have never lost more than that at a time.

i go to casinos but i find slot machines boring. i play $5 blackjack sometimes if my sister really really wants to. but im not particularly fond of it.

i buy a lottery ticket whenever the powerball jackpot is over ..... $30million but i never spend more than $1 on any drawing.... it probably comes to at least $50/year. (i consider it "paying the stupidity tax" but you cant be smart ALL the time)

Gambling is similar to evolution, it's fine until it's a matter of survival where we take increasing risks in the hope of any solution.

The body throws out more mutations in a community under stress from disease, in an all out 'one might create immunity' strategy. Similarly, we're more prone to gamble against the odds when in debt.

In evolution, only one member of the community needs to mutate an immunity for the species to survive, in gambling, it's just you.

Take Peep's advice and always gamble within your means.

Having said that, I love poker, what really gets me going is the game where you hold 0-3 matches in your hand and guess the total amount in the group by going up, I think it's called Bluff but I guess it has many different names, many alternatives to matches, in many different cultures.

I usually bet on sporting events if I feel particularly strongly about the team/I like a horses name (or am I just hiding my anonymous tipoffs ) other than that I dabble in poker, blackjack, real money monopoly pool sharking and life

never won more than £250 but thats because I'm poor anyway and usually its just for the fun of mocking those who lose

Poker with friends--very low stakes, just enough to make it competitive but not enough that losing has to be explained to the spouse :$

Very rarely--slots or blackjack at the casinos. If we go there, my policy is that a night out w/ friends (dinner, drinks, cover for a band, etc) usually runs from $75-$125--split the difference at $100. If I blow that, I'm done and I had my night out. I might drop more by losing whatever I might have won, but that's money I never had to begin with and I keep my net loss at $100.

Do you gamble? Rarely.

If so, what do you gamble on? blackjack.

How much do you gamble? Do you gamble within your means or over? at Las Vegas, I only play at the $3 table.

When do you gamble? only when I'm at vegas. that is... gambling with money on a game of chance type gambling.

What is the greatest amount you have won/lost? Lost? couple hundred (my limit is 3 hundred) won? 13 thousand.

And last why do you gamble? I like 21, so my first trip to vegas, I learned how to play on those tables and the dealer was so patient with this newbie... I got hooked.

I joined the college football (american) office pool last year. I lost. I also entered the office Survivor pool for S&G's. I don't even watch the stupid show. We'll see what happens there.

I don't buy lottery tickets, play cards, or use the one-armed bandits at the casinos around here. I enter the occasional sweepstakes or raffle, and that's really all I do often. I don't have a good win record with those...

Only when it's a sure win.

Then that's not really gambling, is it? :)

I used to participate in March Madness pools, but since I started working I've stopped even that. I never found much enjoyment in gambling to begin with, and you'd be surprised how much investment firms look down on it.

But that's because your taking risks with your money, start taking risks with other peoples money and the investment firms lap it up.

I play the lottery with a couple of friends. Haven't really won much in the last 5 years.

Other than that, I have a sports bet running with my dad for beer on the German soccer league and how our team plays. And I have the same bet when either a world cup or euro cup is around. I also place bets with friends on big tournaments. However, whenever money is involved, I seem to lose - and when we're just playing for kicks, I do kinda okayish.

A few buddies of mine from grad school get together at my apartment every so often to smoke cigars, drink beer, and play Texas Hold'em. The entry fee for the game is $10 per person (shhhh, don't tell anyone though, gambling is illegal in Alabama!) and whoever wins goes home about fifty dollars richer.

I was born and raised in Nevada, so I've been so steeped in casinos and gambling all my life (In math class, we were taught probability through craps) that it honestly has very little interest for me. I have played from time to time, but usually only a few dollars worth dropped in a slot or on the table.

What can I say, as a Nevadan you learn real quick that our entire state's economy is built on the model that people come here to give us their money for no real reason and that the house ALWAYS wins.

Do you gamble?[QUOTE=Blouman Empire]

Occassionally.

[QUOTE=Blouman Empire]If so, what do you gamble on?

A few different things - listed below, plus pachinko, slots, dice (cho han, aka odd even), janken (rock-paper-scissors), mmmm - ah yes, sometimes the lottery.

Card games?

Yep.

If so which ones(?)

Mainly poker (draw or stud, please. I do not like community card games at all.)

Some blackjack.

Also hanafuda, a Japanese "card" game.

Horses?

Not yet.

Dogs?

Long time ago I did some.

Politics?

Rarely

Sporting games?

Occassionally - these days mostly a hockey pool w/ my Canuck friends.

How much do you gamble?

Mostly small amounts - <US$10.
Occassionally up to around US$100.

Do you gamble within your means or over?

Definately within.

When do you gamble?

The last few times I was home for Xmas, we had family trips to the local Indian casino.

Poker night at a friends house 2-3 times a year.

A few times a year w/ Japanese friends - cho-han or hanafuda

Less than once a year with pachinko.

What is the greatest amount you have won/lost?

Biggest win was at a mixer party a few years back, where I won 40,000 yen (US$350 or so) in a janken (rock-paper-scissors) game. Everybody starts with a bill, usually 1000 yen (US$8), and does rock paper scissors with a neighbor. The winner keeps the $$$. Play goes til the last man standing, who pockets the $$$.

In "proper gambling, I've walked away from a 5000 (US$40) yen poker game with 25,000 yen more than once. And 10,000 yen in a world cup pool in '98.

Largest loss was US$100 last year at the casino.

And last why do you gamble?

Depends, but mostly as a social activity.

Ok, how on earth are you gambling on janken? I mean, I've heard of strip janken as a drinking game, but gambling?

It's a party game. Everybody starts with a 1000 yen note. You partner up and the winner takes 2000 and the looser sits down. Then you partner up again. That goes on till there's only one person left.

Yep. I bet on the dogs, horses and sports games.. Mostly the latter two, but occasionally I'll throw in a greyhounds race for fun.

I spend maybe $10 a week, on average. Sometime more around $30-$40, but depends.

Best win was nothing major, $5 percentage trifecta at the races, got $100 back. Biggest lost around $30 at a time.

I tend to keep all my dog and horse bets below $5 these days but sports is where I put a bit more money in to it.

Aside from occasionally stuffing a spare coin into the fruit machine at the pub, and buying a Euromillions lottery ticket a couple of weeks ago because I was certain I was going to win (I didn't), I don't really gamble. I don't have the luck necessary - god enjoys pissing on my head, so I'm not going to help him out.
