I know I just made a topic, but hang in with me.

The second (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081013/ap_on_re_us/safe_haven;_ylt=AohQzaOny4TK9FfBbMUvrcCs0NUE) out of state teen has been dropped off in Nebraska due to Nebraska's few month safe-haven law. Apparently, the law was made overly broad such that it applied to teenagers, and ever since an overwhelmed man dropping off his nine kids got nation wide media attention, apparently out of state parents have decided to swing by Nebraska and give it a try on some sort of fucked up car trip.

Now they are going to try and haul back the law entirely I imagine because of abuses of their idiotic legislative inexactness which made it overly broad.
And for fair-handed reporting purposes, they keep trying to pass off the number of children that have been dropped off as something that is wrong with the system - this kid is the 18th. However, half of the kids dropped off belonged to that one man and 2 more are out of staters that I imagine have only been brought there because of the national attention from the first guy.

This would be even funnier if the first guy did it just to spite his wife for something she did to him. Or as a practical joke.

not so seriously:
well, if the teen thinks (s)he knows more than the parents, now they have a chance to prove it.

remember "as long as you live under [the parents] roof, you follow [the parents] rules."

now the teens can be free from their parents!

on a serious note however:
those are some seriously F***ed up adults there...

Oh and that is 18 kids within a few months right?

did the state KEEP the 9 kids?

Per the AP (http://reporternews.com/news/2008/oct/12/no-headline---childrensafehavenlaw/?partner=RSS) several relatives have volunteered to take the kids in and the Nebraska HHS is working on placement.

Other articles I've read (can't find at the moment) have quoted HHS workers as saying "you know, we have all of these resources available if you're having trouble, but nobody seems to be seeking them out, they're just dropping off their kids like that's an acceptable thing to do. Which it's not."

Except they probably said it more diplomatically.

Hang on, so any adults who don't want kids around them, just dump them in Nebraska and the state looks the other way?

Hmm...I have a new threat for those annoying parents who feel that fine dining restaurants are a great place to bring their screaming brats...

That would be hilarious. albeit in a deeply disturbing sort of way. But unfortunately.........

An out-of-work widower who left nine of his 10 children said he simply felt overwhelmed by his responsibilities. That man, Gary Staton, has asked a judge to allow him to visit his children.

Looks like he and his dearly departed wife never heard of a little set of innovations called contraceptives. I consider that horrible lack of knowledge to be the real tragedy.

so if i get my kid i am paying child support on and drop em off there. I am free of child support even if the state places him with mom ??? a trip to Nebraska seems profitable.
