Best overseas holiday

Having just returned from an overseas holiday in Japan (great place) I was wondering what people think is the best place to have an overseas holiday. Please dont say your own country.

Please dont comment on the poor grouping. This is my opinion which is probably biased towards Australia as im from there, state the actual best country afterwards
I personally love Malta. I've been there half a dozen times or so over the years, and keep going back. It's a gorgeous country, with loads of history and natural beauty, and coming from Britain, the weather is astounding. The people are, for the most part anyway, wonderfully friendly, proud of their country, and for some reason are particularly nice to British visitors (possibly due to the history between the two countries I guess).
I typically stay in Marsalforn on the Gozo sister island, as I have friends living there (though I have stayed in the Atlantis and Calypso hotels on two occasions), and to take a boat ride out from there and around the island is fantastic. The only drawback would be the nightlife, although it does exist.

Meh, I've been to Spain (too warm) and France (prevailing smell of garlic and body odour). Didn't enjoy either of them much. I find that my own country, or more precisely my own home, is a far nicer place to take a break than some hotel in a land far away surrounded by people of whom I know nothing. Because of this, I haven't gone on a foreign holiday for years.

My favourite holiday was China, and that was with a group tour of old German people. So it can definitely be improved upon.
I am planning to, by the way. Next year's December-February timeslot is going to be filled with awesome - HK, Trans-Mongolian Rail, brief trip through Europe, then off to the US east coast. Not sure yet whether there's anything to see further west.
I spent ten days in Italy...a simply amazing place. Florence is probably my favorite large city, but Rome and Venice are spectacular as well.
If I can swing it, when I retire I'll have a little place somewhere in the Dolomiti mountains.

That's a great way to do it NL. I returned in November from Hong Kong - Britain - France - Britain - Greece - USA.
I loved it all..... especially New York, Boston and California. I also loved the Greek islands and Delphi (always wanted to go there).
I hope the Aussie dollar gets up past US 80c (where it was when we travelled)
I don't which category to put the Aegean Sea in. :(

Best for fun - Florida (I'm a big kid and loved it)
Best for culture/history - Sri Lanka and India (may include best food in here as well)
Worst - 3 wet days at Eurodisney in Paris *shudders*

To all you non-British, I heartily recommend Skegness as a holiday destination.
mwahahaha! The expression on your faces amuses me as you get rained on daily and "enjoy" a range of the lowest possible quality entertainment.
I wanted to say Canada, which is not my country, but it also isn't overseas from me. This poll discriminates against continents.

I've enjoyed various diferent holidays for many different reasons. Pakistan was genuinely the most enlightening, Universal Studios was the most fun (especially when Hurricane Wilma paid a quick visit!), family holidays in France/Italy the most enjoyable (I miss these the most) and Amsterdam with my mates was as entertaining as anyone would expect.
Your poll needs more choice!

being English your all dammed dirty foreigners to me (even especially the Irish or those damn Jerseys)
I'd have to say the bestest holiday ever was Germany though I'm thinking Africa would be awesome what with cost and poking fun at the natives
I personally love Malta. I've been there half a dozen times or so over the years, and keep going back. It's a gorgeous country (you like having no trees, wildlife or what I would call road?), with loads of history and natural beauty, and coming from Britain, the weather is astounding. Well, having spent the spring and summer (it was going to be the fall as well, but a certain near death experience said otherwise) living in a tent in Europe I feel a may be qualified to express my opinion.
Republic of Ireland - The friendliest people I met on my trip were from Ireland. Super nice; take you into their home types. Fantastic countryside and the weather was really nice while I was there (April) despite the Irish saying it was terrible. Food was awesome as was the beer and the nights out (Galway....).
France - Drop dead gorgeous, especially the west coast and Corsica. Such a large variety in cultural influences wherever one goes in France. North is not at all the same as the South; the West is completely different from the East. And Corsica in the Med is not so much French as it is Corsican. I had a blast on Corsica despite the heat.
Switzerland - The hospitals and healthcare here are fantastic. The nurses all thought I looked like Hugh Grant (except like 90 years younger and in a neck brace). The Alps and the red trains, the cowbells it was the most photogenic, picture perfect country I'd been to. It beat France for ease of travel as well (Much more expensive however).
I didn't spend enough time in Scotland other than to say it's quite beautiful unfortunately. England as quite nice, I was in Portsmouth the day of (and the day after) they won the FA Cup so that was rather exciting.
Italy was nice, but by then it was tourist hell. Pisa smelled bad, Florence.... poor Florence I wanted to like it but the atmosphere screamed "Tourist Trap" (Nice in France did as well). Verona was pretty good, made better by meeting some Irish guys to cause trouble with. And then it rained and I was stuck hitch hiking because the train tracks were flooded.
My intent had been to go on up through Germany, catch Wacken Festival and then keep on wingin' it as I had been but while in Switzerland the gravity decided it would be better if it took over. So my trip ended rather quickly and violently with a broken neck (I'm all better now for the most part so no worries on that front). Just means I'll have to go back next year and finish it all up, shucks.

Yeah overseas is just an Australian term for any international holiday. I only put the moon in as a joke option. The other one I was thinking is Antartica but thats actually becoming affordable

Tasmania could almost be considered overseas. Almost

yeah we didnt include tasmania in a map for the olympics. its the smallest state we have. And it is left winged. Thoes are two good reasons to get rid of it :D

Another reason to get rid of it is that they are all inbred. Do we have any Tassies on here?
I must admit it does annoy me when I see Yank shows with a map of Australia and Tasmania is missing.

ah...I just noticed that the poll has as one of it's voting options:
Asian Islands (Japan, Indonesia, Fiji)
Fiji, an ASIAN island? wtf?
A Japanese:

A Fijian:

Maybe the OP meant Fuji. Or since all Pacific Islands are left out except for NZ then he may be mixing the two.

Fiji is considered part of asia. They descend from chinese. The New zealand and Australians are sometimes included as part of Australiasia. Thats because they are too Westernized to be real asians and were traditionally not included as part of asia

Hmm. I'm gonna have to go with the pacific islands (namely Vanuatu and Rarotonga) just edging out Europe. When I went to Europe I wasn't really old enough to understand where I was/what I was seeing etc. In the islands it was just a mint time to relax and enjoy the wether.

I disagree. I would say that us New Zealanders are from the Pacific.

The people are decent, the landscapes are beautiful (particularly on a boat trip), and the nightlife sucks compared to Ibiza, Malaga, Malia, etc.
