The Dude is 10 years old today:
It's 10 years since the release of The Big Lebowski, a film that split cinema audiences down the middle but created a strange cult. Is The Dude a slacker prince for our times?

My favourite scene:

unfortunately the bastards that be have taken down the one with the follow-up all-time classic line, "Nobody fucks with the Jesus".
John Turturo is such a cool actor.

The Dude abides.

Okay. Can we expect to see a birthday thread for every movie that has a cult status?

I know people that have about twenty versions of this movie. STOP RELEASING IT, you're robbing poor misguided people whose love for this film makes them believe that they are actually getting something new each time.

There are no rhetorical questions on NSG.

I thought the film had a few funny scenes, but it does have that Lynch/Tarantino quality of reveling in its own cleverness. The Coens are far better at that when they encase it in a good plot. I don't dislike the film, but the cult following, as is true for me for many cult films, puzzles and annoys me. Not very much, though.
