heeshee rendivious by, i think it was, fred pohl, or whoever wrote that series.

i actually wrote something a little like that, in spegetti basic, back in vic20/c-64/8bit days.

basically you're faced with a set of pretty color coded settings, no one has the slightest idea what any of them mean, on an alien ship, a whole fleet of fully functionaly but completely abondond alien ships. set them right, pretty much a matter of shere luck to begin with, and you reach a pot of alien tecnology gold at that end of the starbow. set them wrong, and you'll run out of air and starve before you get there.

all you can do once you launch, is hope the turnover/midway point is reached before you know you'll starve/suffocate before you get there. oh yah, and the seats are increadly uncomfortable, having been designed by and for people who'se bodies must be shaped very differently from humans. that or they took the very odly shaped cussions with them.

There is a "Frederick Pohl's Gateway" (title of the first book in the Heechee series) from Legend Entertainment - a 1991 or 92 release I think.

The Koran should be made into a film. Its not like that could cause trouble or anything:p
This (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074896/) is close enough and not a bad one either - if you don't count many dramatic freedoms taken.

I'd like to say something by Pratchet but that wouldn't work.Worked for Psygnosis, GT Interactive and Dro Soft :) There are actually three Discworld games, "Discworld," "Discworld II: Mortality Bytes!" and "Discworld Noir" (last one was a dramatic failure in my humble opinion).

As for the OP, I'd love to see a good, Oblivion-like rendition of Lucky Luke :)

Yeah. That also put me off his works. I really got into the first book. It had a level of medieval realism that is missing from all other fantasy books.
2nd book not so much me did like. It felt like he was going out of his way to be as brutal as possible - especially to the 'good' side - and some of the characters started becoming caricatures of themselves.
My fears were confirmed by the 3rd book.

I thought I might give the 4th a go, but it took so long for him to bring it out that by the time it did come out I'd all but forgotten who was who, why and what the hell was going on. I didn't fancy re-reading them all again so gave up.

I recommend the fourth book. I generally hate fantasy, but Song is probably one of my favorite series of all time. Hell, Pyetr...in the last book...omfg. I was also burned by from the WoT series, which just went on and on and on. When I picked up Martin's 1st book which promised to be a trilogy, I thought, "cool. Pacy well written series unlike Jordan's bloody multi-thousand page dirge". Then when it went to 4, then 5 now a promised 7 I'm just not interested.
Trilogy should be long enough to tell the story you want to tell. No need to explain everything. Part of the enjoyment of LoTR is that it leaves so much unsaid and unexplained - letting the reader imagine those bits.

Eh...I think GRRM over-estimated himself a bit when he set out to make this story into a trilogy. But, say, WoT books are all like 1200 pages, no? Each of these is 600-700 pages, so really, by WoT's standard of book length, it still is a trilogy! :p

As the story stands now, it isn't so much everything being explained as it is that there are multiple important threads that not only merit explanation, but necessitate it. Also, keep in mind, that it seems that most of these threads are just the unraveled end of a larger noose that is tightening around the neck of the story's characters. I mean, there is a messiah prophecy, a definite coming doom is occurring in the north, a child is coming into his own as some crazy shape-shifting, future-seeing cripple, another young girl is successfully reforming a massive army/empire while some others have failed and mofo's are popping in and out of death like it was a bathroom in an Indian restaurant. I simply don't see how a trilogy could satisfactorily bring closure to the series.

Also, keep in mind, that we probably differ a lot in regards to literature. My opinion seems to run counter to most. For example, I think Bree is one of GRRM's best characters and my favorites are Daenarys and Jaime.

Hi kids! Today we're going to learn the difference between karma and the Kama Sutra. It's going to totally awesome!

Let's take a closer look at karma first. Karma stands for the total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny. Heavy, no? It's a big thing in Hinduism and Buddhism.

The Kama Sutra is more like a guide that can have influence on a person's actions and conduct, if he or she is in the company of others to perform said actions with. Since Kama is the god of love in Hindu mythology, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Kama Sutra is a detailed and erotic treatise on the art of love and sexual techniques. It's a pretty ancient book, but it's still considered to be stupid fresh.

Now you know what these Sanskrit principles mean. Impress your friends with your rad knowledge!

Johnny Got his Gun.

It starts out as a WWI FPS, and then it ends as a rhythm game where you have to press the button in time with the morse-code so he can bash out a message with his head.

Here's a hint: for the happy ending, get shot to death in the FPS part.

I like it already. We can even license the Metallica song "One" to go along with it.

Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, but as envisioned by Jan Svankmeyer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5wHMgTPF-s). An adventure game with embedded mini-games.

All 31 Fantomas novels. You have to keep changing the identity of your character -- and you can never get back to who/what you were before -- as you chase the terrorist/criminal Fantomas while at the same time being accused of being Fantomas and chased by cops.

Frankenstein. A puzzle/building game.

EDIT: Also, The Cyberiad (Stanislaw Lem). Another puzzle/building game with adventure, competitive for two players. Play as either Trurl or Klapaucius. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cyberiad

The Quoran. Or Forrest Gump. Or maybe, this is just me thinking, the lord of the rings trilogy! that would make a sweet movie as well.

Red Storm Rising.

I know, I know, Microprose made a Red Storm Rising game back in the '80s for the Apple II, Commodore 64 and IBM Compatibles (PCs). That was just a submarine simulator game, one of many... And that's not what I have in mind...

I'm talking about a Turn-Based Strategy game that involves all of the different aspects of the war as presented by Clancy. Naval surface warfare. Submarine warfare. Air combat. Land combat. Resource management. Logistics. I want to launch A-10 squadrons against T-72s. I want to plan the defense of Iceland against Soviet surprise attack. I want to send up an F-15 to shoot down satellites so the movements of my U.S.S. Nimitz battle group can go unobserved.

Mmmmm.... that would be a game!

They did that, somewhat, with World in Conflict. A lot of the elements of Red Storm Rising were used in the game.

There's a Terry Pratchett adventure/puzzle game out there with similar mechanics to Monkey Island. Very old though.

There already is a Sims, though. In fact, you can even replicate the play by tricking three Sims into entering a room, then deleting all the doors and entertainment items. You've just got to be sure that there is a fridge in the room with them, so no one starves to death.
